Vinyl trim glue & questions???

[English Impala]

The door cards/trim panel on the Chevy are fuqued. Not only have the hardboard backings warped but the vinyl is cracked. As a set of door cards are expensive, I'm making my own replacements. The only difficult bit is the chequered panel in the middle (see the photo below). As this bit is fine on my existing panels, I've carefully cut it out & I want to glue it onto the new vinyl, to make it look original.

What can I use to stick it down? Every adhesive I've used so far has been useless.

If its still available, the old Dunlop 'Thixofix' was pretty hard to beat, glue sniffers got it hidden from the shelves though.
