I've run my stag 196 off a 13amp plug for 15 years, never blown a fuse yet.

I run my on a 30 amp cooker circuit - had it fitted when I had the garage wired up. Garage has its own consumer unit and RCD.

My 180 is ran off an 20' extension lead out of the kitchen (not cooker circuit, normal double socket in wall...), no problems....

I was told if your gona use anything more than 130amp then it needs to be on a 30amp supply. Also you only get out of the welder what power you put in. Even though you may have a 190 amp welder, if its on a 13amp plug then you wont even be getting 120amps. Just what i was told off an electrician and no he didnt do the wiring in my garage to get business, lol.
I had a cebora 180, a good welder, until the roof leaked into it! I ran it on a 3pin for years and it worked pretty well, a mate used it and said it was not a patch on his one, so we put a 32 amp socket in the kitchen and ran it through that and it was a much better welder even on the lower settings, I couldn't believe what a difference it made.

so can i take a short sper out of the back of the cooker (dont all cringe at once) fit one of the round blue 32amp rated plugs to it, make up an extention lead with same pluggs. then when i want to use the welder chuck the cable out the kitchen window
the cooker is on a 40 mcb!

I'm pretty sure you can't/aren't allowed to do that, as the cooker is supposed to have a dedicated line all to itself from the fuse board, although bear in mind I'm not a sparky.

I sort of did that:o ,but I had a gas cooker so went straight out of the socket.

My thinking was that I could have my tea first then when finished with the cooker do some welding so only one was on at a time...lol
To be honest I won’t be doing much welding anyway at the moment, but would like it set up for use if I needed too
Once the garage is built I won’t need the cooker supply and it will be disconnected
