I am finally registering here as when I was young I could have a rod, but couldn't afford it and now I can (maybe) afford it I have a mortgage, wife, kids et al..... but just going to have to bite the bullett.. before I get too old to drive.
So intro..
Alex Wright, 37, GSOH, would like to meet Rod, preferably 31 - 34, for mutual pleasure (mmmmmmm) :)
Working as a fleet manager for Henry Ford, worked in, with, or around cars most my working life. spent 10 years selling (or trying to sell) powertrain to Caterham, Morgan, Lotus, Noble, Ginetta, Dare etc etc...
Have owned or had as company cars about 45 in total from the daft (67 Morris 1100) to the Ridiculous (Talbot Matra Rancho) and numerous bikes.
Some of the more mentionables:
Consul Corsair (63 straight 4 1500, manual column shift etc) - pile o' poo but I loved it - cost me £120 when I was 18.
Sunbeam Alpine 71 fastback - cost me £50 - but this was a real baragin!

Westfield SE (2.0 Raceline Zetec c/w Jenvey 45s and 3d fuel inj by Emerald (nice, mad & fast)

Noble M12 GTO (3.0 365hp development car) - Best car ever driven - mind bending mechanical grip, and the v6 twin turbo with unsynced wastegastes singing behind your ears....:D:D
Marcos Mantara with Rover 4.0 V8 John Eels Dakar Engine - belonged a mate - went to my wedding in this, "If you're gonna go to hell do it in a V8."

Used to religiously follow the rodding scene but got old, married, parented and lost touch.
Attended Supernats Every year from about 92 - 97 - Never won the giveaway car but did fully partake in the Saturday nights (as far as I recall, which aint much)!
First rod magazine - Street machine February 1984 - Silver chopped, couped 3.0 Essex V6 minor on the cover (still have it and all the other street machines and custom cars accumulated over the years)
Have a particular love for 30's Fords and the Tri chevys (esp the 55 bel air and 34Y - explanation below) but appreciate anything that has nice lines, or shows attention to detail, engineering excellence, or harks back to a time when designers were probably on something and aerodynamics & economy were for somebody else to worry about.
The things that first got me interested in Rods:
1) A dinky toy 32b 3 window coupe with roof chop that I had when I was about 6 (which my son now has)
2) ZZ Top's 34Y Eliminator - The 34 coupe Y chopped and channelled is still my all time favourite silhouette although with no back seats cant get one until the kids have moved out - hence looking for 29 -34 A, Tudor, Vicky etc.
3) A Revell model I made when I was 14 - 55 bel air street machine, black and flamed (I still remember putting the decals on this even tho it was 23 years ago).
So thats me, looking forward to getting back into it! Maybe see you at the Supernats this year...
