With the current trend towards turning the clock back to the halcyon days of when Harold Wilson was prime minister and dinosaurs ruled the drag strips, organisers of the 20th annual NSRA Hot Rod Drags scheduled for September 12th/14th at Shakespeare County Raceway - the home to nostalgia drag racing - are looking for some ‘fun time’ drag cars to put on display that's if you're not racing them at the event of course.

“We’re looking for some true classics which we know all too well are indeed out there,” says SCR’s Jerry Cookson. “You only have to cast your eyes over the many threads which form the pages of the ukdrn nostalgia forum www.ukdrn.co.uk (http://www.ukdrn.co.uk) to get a feel of what actually still exists today, and what they once were in a former life.

“Display cars can be in part repair or under taking current restoration. It doesn’t matter as each vehicle will tell a unique story in how the sport has progressed from days gone by. Heck, it doesn’t have to be a car. It could be a body shell, panels or even an engine and trans!

“So far we’ve contacted a few owners who have expressed an interest, but we could do with a few more to make the display something that hot rodding and drag racing fans will hopefully remember for another twenty years, and its all under cover. It doesn’t matter what state the vehicle is in. It’s all part and parcel of the nostalgia holiday weekend. So why not come and join the party.”

If you own a historical drag car, or you know someone who does then give Jerry a call at Shakespeare County Raceway on 01789 720180/07901 796674 or e-mail enquiries@shakespearecountyraceway.co.uk (enquiries@shakespearecountyraceway.co.uk) or quartermilenewsmakers@yahoo.co.uk (quartermilenewsmakers@yahoo.co.uk).

Organisers of the dusk rolling Cacklefest at Shakespeare County Raceway on Saturday September 13th are looking for vintage 1950s and 1960s pickup trucks or station wagons that can be used as tow/support vehicles for race teams taking part at NSRA’s 20th annual Hot Rod Drags. If you plan to attend the HRD’s in a period truck and would like to get involved in this history making event, owners can either e-mail details about the truck directly to the raceway at enquiries@shakespearecountyraceway.co.uk or to Mark Fullard at vivnmark@sky.com.
