Here's one of those thoughts that occurs from time to time.
I've just bought a new set of roller rockers for the SBF in the Zody.
They are very pretty, blue anodised...
Why bother anodising them blue when they will be hidden under the rocker covers?
Does the anodising make them stronger or prettier or something else?
Anodising is used basically to protect the aluminium's surface. Looks can be a secondary bonus. These folks give a tecky explanation: http://www.coatfab.com/anodising.htm

It shouldn't be too difficult to cut the centre from the cover and screw in a piece of perspex (along with some sealant)...you might need a wiper inside to clear the oil though :D
It shouldn't be too difficult...............
Bear in mind this is Guy!!!!

Guy will probally incorperate a hinge in the rocker covers just so he can show off his shiny bits.

Don't have standard covers Mark...
If they don't fit under the Cal Custom (Genuwine 60's finned) I'll have to put the Mr gasket ones back on again.
Shows how long it is since you've seen the car :-)
But why make them blue?
I never did get that whole Blue/Red anodised colour scheme. Probably some very clever (male/female unions), reason. I shudder at the thought of the stuff. It all equates to the '80s Street Rod(remember them?) scene. Not my scene. Simple clear or black would suffice.

Apart from the cool look of the coloured Aluminium, it's only when the anodised surface has been dyed and then heat sealed afterwards that you can easily see whether the anodising has taken over the whole piece. If the post machining cleansing isn't perfect leaving some cutting lube on the part, you get patchy anodising, and the part goes in the scrap bin.

The dye thing probably goes back to the Aircraft industry, Where I did my apprenticeship they used to make Aircraft Rivets, they were all annodised different colours to signify different applications, The dye is if I remember just basic vegi dye, or in some cases Analine dye, which in some cases why the colour fades in the sun, Annodising is only really a form controlled oxidation.
Why colour the Rocker Arms, it may be somtining to do with the factory where they are made so you can tell at a glance what the application for the rockers are.
