It's often said by users of other forums that EVERYONE on here owns a rod. Now I know that's not the case so how about a quick vote to see what the split actually is ?
Not going to split it down into sub genres ...well yet anyway ...

I did.....but I have to be honest, I was trying to remember whether we'd already done this not too long ago on the previous 'board, so maybe I wasn't concentrating as hard as I should've been. It all seems a bit familiar, y'see....
Not that I remember Darren ? It's something that's always quoted by others but I've never seen it quantified? Even if it has, loads of new guys on here now so let's see how it pans out.
Like I said ,it's something that is always levelled at this forum so it would be nice to see if it's justified ?

There looks like a descrepancy on page 3, Des makes the total 27, but on Konsul Kolins post the number drops to 26, so if KK hasn't got a rod, Paul is rod no 28 not 27! Meaning Klunks is 34 and then comes me. There, clear as mud.

Sorry Kev, I've just found another......
Post No 16 by you totals 14 rods and 4 customs, then Langy bumps the total of rods up by 5??? but drops the customs down to 2!!! As far as I know Steve has 2 rods on the road and one project in build plus his F100 truck, which is probably for this exercise a custom. 3 rods make 17 at that point and 5 customs????
Its all getting far too complicated!

Yup post 49 Yanks =customs. There should be a pukka poll but it isn't where it should be , may have been disabled/ not activated.
It doesn't have to be an exact figure , there won't be tests afterwards !

I'm not sure what this is going to prove as it seems most inaccurate, The Customs seem to include everything including trucks & gassers ???

It's not so much what is a 'custom' Steve as the percentage of rods to 'others' ,customs seemed generally the most appropriate word for anything post '49.The point is to see if this is the rod 'only' site that outsiders seem to think it is rather than an exact survey.
From the figures so far it seems to be a 2/3 -- 1/3 split ,not too shabby. I was thinking of possibly expanding on the info gleaned in later posts.

Correct it IS the non members that think that along with participants in other forums who, although they read here, still hold that opinion. Hopefully this will go some way to dispelling that myth?.
The club certainly isn't elitist or this forum wouldn't be open to all. We are drifting of topic really though, I don't want to have to lock my own thread , especially as it has worked so well.!! LOL

Like a lot of others, I'm on here to learn and to try and decide what it is I'm after.....and I'm going to have to sacrifice one of my other lovely cars for it (probably the fibreglass one.....).....so, I think its good that there is a good mixture of owners on here.....ya gotta start somewhere yeah? and to be honest its a bit of a minefield that old argument of what is a hotrod and what isn't? I think I know now.......

My point was simply that if it's pre '49 (which it is) then it must be post '48, otherwise '49 is left in limbo Kev. I care nothing for the reasoning (although I know some history) or 'crossover'..the maths is simple!
BTW: a custom '36 surely counts as pre '49 rather than 'custom'

But surely to prove a point you cant just 'generalise' i.e. call it a 'custom' just because it doesn't fall into the category of 'hot rod'. At a rough estimate probably 2/3 of the customs quoted on here aren't custom's but actually only American cars.
But I do see what your trying to do, so-long as you ask for a proper pole on who owns a proper "K/Custom" at the end of this referendum?
That's where I will be going Crusty ,along with some other stuff.

Kev I didn't mean to imply that one car is more beautiful than another...just that for the purpose of this 'survey' a car is either pre '49 or post '48. My taste in cars is actually very wide ranging. I also don't intend to fall out with any one over this.

I didn't want to get into the whole pre49 / post 48 thing as it usually ends in a ruck from those that don't understand the reasons for it coming into being ( hence my 'signature on here ). Hence the broadbrush generalisation for the purposes of this post, It seems pretty obvious that there is a 70 /30% ish split , that's all I was trying to establish.
