My new FE360 has a normal looking dizzy on, but inside it appears to be like the Rover one, with 8 points on a rotor and some sort of electrical pickup. It has a three pin plug coming out of it, but nothing plugged into it. Anybody have any ideas what I need to get it running? is it some obsolete black box, or something generic to Fords and easy to find. I'm not sure exactly what model the dizzy is, but here's a rough piccie.

I'm offshore again now, so no more info avaliable for a while. I'm wondering if the dizzy can be plumbed into the sort of small amplifier you have with the Rover SD1 ignition, just two wires on one end, then off to the coil.

I was hoping to find some sort of inexpensive chevy type HEI equivalent dizzy on Summit, but they don't appear to do them.

Paul, Thats a standard ford distributor. It should have 3 wires one black one purple and one orange, Its the same as in my 460 bbf .Whats inside is a magnetic pick up which will run a standard electronic amplifier or an msd type ignition, you can use any amplifier suitable for a magnetic pick up but i dont think it will run with the Rover unit . You could try the sierra unit as this will run fine on the dizzy.

What sort of Mallory is it Steve? must admit, I know little about 'em. I'd be interested in the FE bits, if they're useful.

I saw that Partzfinder dizzy yesterday, seems almost TOO cheap to be true. I don't have any recognisable pertronix bits in my dizzy.

Sounds like the animal, two dark coloured and an orange from what I can see. I don't know what sort of condition it is in, though it was running when I bought it. if I can find an amp I'll stick it on, see what happens, except I don't know which wires go where....

Yeah, thats a standard Ford Duraspark Dizzy. Good chance it'll plug into a european ford black box.
In the states, the Mopar amp box is considered a good upgrade.
Watch out for dodgy magnetic pickups, a common cause of intermittent ignition aggro.

Duraspark or duraspark 2, dizzy's the same but later (post '76 ) control box is much better. New boxes are not expensive or use MSD. Bushings in the dizzy can wear quite badly (T-shirt obtained). Stock advance springs are way too strong, Mr Gasket does kits.

Paul the Mallory i have here is a Dual point, I used one in my FE for years with no problems, Good enough for 10.6 quarters.

i will have a look and see what i have, I do have a set of brand new ARP rod bolts somewhere.

Steve, let me know what bits you've got, and we might be able to do business when I get back at Xmas. Not planning a major rebuild yet, but you never know what can happen.
