I must thank Dave Lowe for this pic of my Mk1
289SBF with 2v Cleveland heads, TJ fuel injection, and Tiger close ratio 4speed box.
I sold the car on a whim, which was then sold on where the plate was sold and the car with less than 1500 miles on to was broken for spares, I know the shell is about, and I saw the engine in a Pro Street 37 ford coupe at the nationals one year, and the wheels are on another mk1

When did you have the Consul, did you chop it? as I remember one similar roof chop around Wanstead late 80's, it was white and in a mates garage.

I brought from a guy in Scotland about 9 or 10 years ago, had it a year and moved it on

NES 941 it was, not a s previously mentioned....
Just realised I met the wife when I had the Pontiac so that makes it 88 I sold it ...

My old Mk1 Consul around 85/86. Chopped, dropped, 2 doored and V6 powered. It was pretty rough and was never finished, ended up in the scrapyard.

superb...
Anyone remember that "interesting" spares bloke in Poole, was it Ken somebody?
Ken Tingey at Ford 50 Spares. Boy could he talk. (and talk and talk and talk and talk ........)
I actually had a couple of incidents where I had to put the phone down on him because I just couldn't stop him going on. I kept telling him I had to go but he wasn't listening, had no choice in the end otherwise I'd still be on the phone to him now. He never seemed to hold it against me when I called back after those incidents, probably happened a lot of the time to a lot of customers.

Not mine Al,
It's always been a C6 and 8" rear with drums.
Although, when it came out of the factory it was a 3 speed Floor Shift.
According to Kev at ZMS - Ultra Rare- :-)

I bought this from the back of Street Machine many years ago, and brought it over here. Essex V6 engined consul, Mk 3 legs and rear axle.
http://www.irish-customs.com/oldsite/images/consul.jpg
Way back in the day, I started chasing a Mk1 or 2 and found any I called about from about prior 6 months worth of mags was sold. This one had also sold, bloke bought it for its tan leatherette interior for a Pro Street Zepher he was building (in Kent, seafoam colour). Course rear bench was too wide for pro street rear, and car was too good to scrap for the interior anyway.

I've always thought that this car just looks so right. There's a pic on here somewhere of you smoking the rear tyres that made me grin like a kid.
What's the spec and history on this car?
I'm not normally one to use supurlatives, but I have to say, it's one of the nicest fords I've ever seen. (At least I assume it's a ford???)

Did you sell it to a trader near Leatherhead, Peter someone? That's who I bought it from & I too wish i hadn't sold it. Paul who I sold it to, has spent the last few years restoring it & only finished it this year. He sent me a load of pics of it.
It was so long ago I cant remember(plus the age thing!);)
All I can remember was when they turned up the two guys just stood there looking at it saying they didnt think it would be this good....sold it for £3000 which was what I paid for it so cant complain.

The grey primmered MK2 in the background, looks like one owned by " Paul Presley " who used to live on my old estate in Brixton late 70's early 80's....anyone know...?
The red MK2, ironically came from the next road to where I moved to early 80's ( Bromley ), and although I have not actually seen it out and about for ages, apparently it will be back out againg soon.......I always liked that car... It was an iconic car from the old days for me, Cool UK sled :)

Peter Leary was his name, it just came to me as I was re-reading this thread. Can't think what his company name was but he dealt mainly in classic cars, but did have the odd "interesting" one. I think the Consul was a trade-in though. Interesting ride home in it, didn't like roundabouts much so the first thing I did was get the steering sorted out!
that lookd real nice on the trailer...
Oh ****e...well bang goes the bodyshop work then as the trailer picture was before the work was done... :( ...LOL
It'll sit as low as it does on the trailer but the shocks have been removed and steel bar put in their place while the shocks are being sorted.... ;)
It will still have the two tone but just in different colours and smoothed of handles....
Hopefully out of the bodyshop in Jan then wiring and then interior..........so out by March then........not..;(

What happened to the black/dark blue Mk1 Consul that was around about 4 years ago that was about 12 years in the making?
Owned by Jason?...that had bodywork down by Streatham Bodyworks or similar...it has smoothed bumpers with built in indicators, smoothed engine bay with I think a 350 Chevy?
I met him at a show once and he said he wasnt into the show scene much but took it to Run what Ya Brung events and also just drove it......
Was a very well built and put together Mk1 more in the vein of a US Overhaulin kind thing...

Here's one we built at TC Bodymods in the early 90's, for a guy called Rob. He moved to Northern Ireland with his job, [social worker] and took the car with him. I saw it on the Irish Custom Website , but I don't know where it is now. Come on SPONDON, I'll bet you know!!
It ran [I think] a 289, c4, 9in. and was fully caged. Rob couldn't afford a proper paint job, so we used grey celly primer with loads of dregs from old different colours until he said stop!! and that is what he got!!
Charlie!!!
ps. we had a lot of help from GAAARRRYYY LAAYYTTOOOON!!

That was painted by Steve Bradshore (Streatham crash), I helped put the engine back in after it was painted when the engine hoist let go on Jasons finger and snapped his finger in half! I saw Jason at the Ace cafe a few months ago and as said all ready he does go out in it much now but he is looking for a mk11 zephyr/zodiac to pro-street.

Tony tony, i think kev was the first to paint it, then i think it got damaged while in storage and jason took it to steve bradshaw and had it redone. car was originally dark green metallic with a v6 when jason bought it, many years ago. think it came from watford ?

Not sure about the damage side of things but it did belong to Pat Miles when it was Green with the V6 in it many many years ago, Jason only lives in Surbiton so may try and get him out in the Consul a bit more if he hasn`t sold it?

Mick ! One that got away aye ? I couldn't have parted with that ,it's bleedin' luverly ! & so are the others . I've always loved mk 1's & 2's . Does anyone know if the owners club still do a" London to Brighton run "? They used to stop at the "Bolney Stage" on the old A23 en route .

Thats the kiddy....nice job on that one...and a nice guy too.....
Talking of Mk 11's and pro street, is there someone called Costa on here that has a Mk11 that has had some radical sectioning work done at Rayvern Hydraulics? The car has been with Ray for over 4 years while Costa has been sorting stuff out..
The car has some serious roll cage and what looks like a big block up front...not been touched for a long time though.
Would be good to see the car finished. It was mentioned in an article in one of the mags about sectioning and choping. Ray was interviewed about the Zephyr......

Think I regretted it the minute it rolled off my trailer & onto the boat at Southampton! Doubt I would have spent so much time & effort restoring it though, it really is a credit to Paul now (& Charlie who originally built it), just hope he can bring it over one day.

Does anyone know what happened to this one,it was Julies first car before we bought the Thames van,she sold it around 80/81and went down the London area.
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa202/ijarm/de4f3d70.jpg
The next time we saw it was at the Pod,it had a 2.8 Ford V6 in it,here is a pic of it.
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa202/ijarm/128fef40.jpg
The last time was saw it was again at the Pod,when it was in red oxide primer, and running a Pontiac motor i think.
DVLA check reveals it has been off the road since 82 and showing a 5703cc motor, would just like to know if it is still alive somewhere as it was not the best of body shells.
Well guys with all the great photos you guys have been posting here i am thinking off maybe (MAYBE) goin down the zephyr MK1 route...(HAS TO BE A MK1)....that is something i`ll have to have a real big think about as most of you guys know i have had my rod for more than 8 yrs now and i love it to bits and has been the most reliable car i have ever had and now it has got a V8 in it ,its just what i have always wanted in it, but we`ll have to wait and see its just an idea ...............TOAD

Here's my MK1, (in an old, but well known guise!) currently asleep 150 miles away from me!
One day I'll have a garage and get it back on the road again.
It's a shame as it doesn't need much and I really really want to get stuck in doing it.

Hey, great to see that again Mike ,i remember you racing it and running strong at Bruntingthorpe drags, and snapping a half shaft, then the owner of the local garage in the village welding it back together so you could get home.

Ian, am I getting it confused with another Midlands car, but I thought Julie's old car ended up with Dave Pollen and became his first Gary's Doorslammers giant killer, the old Pollen Count MK1?

Thats my old one - sold about 13 years ago when i got my Plymouth. It was a daily driver but as i lived then in central Brighton at the time haveing two cars on the road was'nt practical. Lot of nice memories of that car .I often wonder what happened to it. :)
heres one i had, I sold it to Paul Johnson from Tamworth he took out the rover an put in a blown sbc chevy an tubbed it a bit more to get 33x19x15 mickeys under it, he recently sold it on

That would be my mate Carl Powles, he originally built the car in the 80's. I know he used to go all over the country in it, and definitely ran it at Bruntingthorpe. It was taken off the road around 1990-1 ish. Spent many years sat in a garage before I rescued it just before it went to a swap meet! I'm glad I did. Anyway, it should be back on the road within a couple of years max, hopefully! I've done quite a bit to it, all the front and rear end body work has been replaced. When done it should look pretty much stock, but with huge wheels and tyres on the back! At the moment though I live 150 miles away from the car, so I haven't touched it for at least 18 months. No storage here, so the wait goes on.

Bob, nice of you to remember, but to put the record straight I did own the car but not Mark!!!!! How long ago was this pic taken?
I had lots of fun in that car, remember taking it up to Fairoaks airfield on Sunday mornings, filling it up with AV-Gas, the people that worked there used to run up to the control tower to watch me wheel spinning up the road to addlestone.

Great thread, especialy the pics of the high riders, they look so good done that way.The grey primer MK2 pictured earlier going up the strip looks like one that used to go down the Rayliegh weir car meet in essex back in the early 80s,along with a few others. Sadly the Mk 2 above with the aero scoop crashed up at the pod few years ago,had a 460 motor. Anyone remember the MK2 Kustom chopped panal from late 70s early 80s
