Funny as I lived in the same area as them for years but never met them, but a few months ago I was in a stainless steel exhaust company getting bits bent for the 34 and Ron Harris was there (altho I didnt know who he was at the time) the guy at the garage introduced us and Ron shook my hand fek me! thought he was gonna pull me arm off lol, he did say what he was up to but for life of me I cant remember?

Dad (Ron senior) still builds 4 pot engines for hot rod racing, H.P.E. (roundy round), Jeff moved to France a couple of years ago but has moved back & now lives near Maidstone. I haven't seen Andy for several years now but I believe he's still in the area.

Yep Andy is still about and racing a very stout 2l pinto powered Mk1 escort, think its running low 11s without gas, also seems to be able to get 18" of air under the front wheel when he launches, and was living in Beddington last time I saw him,
Jeff Runs HPE now as Ron has Semi retired, hes 74 now, and still drag races his 12 sec mk1 escort, Martin and Little Ron have all but fallen off the map, But Andys kids are racing Mk1 & 2 escorts up the pod on a regular basis

I owned the red one in the eighties (QUICK TEMPERED) the one with the HULK painted under the bonnet, I did a deal with Jeff for my 55 chevy . It was more fun than a barrell of monkeys chasing porche,s around the North Circular... AHHH the good old days....

They were the days, I remember being at Croydon cruise when the Harris bros were running up & down the duel carrageway with the old bill chasing them in a Mk1 escort panda car, by the time the old bill got one end, the Harris bros were up the other end, we also pushed out the car park barriers, and stopped the traffic for them to do dounuts.
Someone said that Harris snr broad sided his Mk1 into a lamp post on the way home ??

The last time I see them, was at a Redhill car park cruise, and they were still entertaining the crowd !!!

Excellent bunch of guys !!

That's good to hear, I keep meaning to pop round to see dad. Jeff's daughter & mine (the stunt driver - see seatbelt thread on discussion forum!) were at school together & still keep in touch via facebook (whatever that is!).

Amuses me that Andy can get an Escort to wheelstand, considering the size of him! But their engines are fantastically quick though, ain't they?

Don't think mine is an ex Harris car Russ (if you mean me..!!!), as it has 'standard' rear arches, but I DO know it's had an eight in it since the seventies....

So who knows...????

I do know that someone called Bear (???) on here used to own mine, and it was in Leicester years ago in pale blue/grey (came out of CC classifieds I think, I have the mag..) then went up to Trevor in Cannock, then back here to Leicester, I only know this because the chap that does my MOT's and stuff used to MOT it when it was here the first time 'round and has pics...!!

I have been told by Pixie on here, that it broke a 4 bar mount whilst out on a 'cruise' around Leicester, and he ratchet strapped the axle in place to get it home, I always look at the mounts just to check every week now....!!!

Andy had the old Jago, 302, full fendered, light blue metallic blue 5 window, it can be seen burning out in the Whitgift shopping centre in a CC feature on a couple of their cars.

Nick Kemps Lo Lid Zephyr started out life as "The Entertainer", which was owned by a cousin of the Harris', he's a London cab driver, seen him lurking around Waterloo station a few times.

Yes Guy thats the man, we pulled it from a garage in North London,it had a 289 in it and the headers coming through the inner arches, the same as Harris cars hadi believe, chromed 9" rear and a pair of boxing gloves hanging fom the rear view mirror.
Plate was RLP 928, now on my vette.
That must have been 15-20 years ago and the car had been sitting for years then.
It was maroon when Bear bought it and Grey and Blue when sold on, which matches up.

Er, did anyone read the latest Custom Car?

Andy Harris bought my old Pop from Terence Bull(?) who I sold it to. He phoned me and asked me about it before buying it, and I pointed out I found it quite comfortable to drive, and climb in and out over the cage (5'-4" 10-stone weakling), but that he might find it more of a challenge.....I don't think he had it for long before selling it to Popinoz!

I met Ron Harris about 10 years ago when I bought some crossflow bits off him through Nick Arlett. Didn't realise who he was at the time, or Nick Arlett for that matter :D

Ron showed me a Mk1 Escort and Nick was building a Vangard or something in his garden.

Nicks Vanguard is finished, but awaiting a bit of wiring for the ECU, and a new rack, its on hold as he has moved recently down the road, I suppose I will have to get my bum in gear soon to get the wiring done, I was meant to go and do it last week, but I could not get the time away from my new toy!!!

I walked past his place a week or so ago, that explains why I couldn't see any evidence of him living there while peering over his fence :D

Give me a shout when you go round if you don't mind me popping round too, I'm just round the corner.

Unfortunately my Mk1 Zephyr ( KHJ 504 ) doesn't appear to be an ex Harris car judging by the old log books, but has certainly had a 302 in it since the early 80's. Be nice to think that the Harris's perhaps had a bit of a hand in it at some time though.

hi mart, think your spot on with that one, im sure andy bought it built and did some engine stuff and bits and pieces, i think it might have been featured in street machine. i seem to remember that you were not only credited with the previously mentioned smashing wheel arches ( which are lovely ) but also the paint job on that one... lovely colour, was it a jag red?

The red mk1 with revolutions was Jimmy Masons, Shane Powell did a fair bit of work on it,
i worked for Jimmy & Shane for a few years and remember lots of pics of the mk1 on the wall in Shanes workshop,
Andy Kehoe did own it,
sold on then painted purple with centerline wheels/hoosiers,
think that guy got it into the 10s,
cant rembember his name but think its the guy thats got the dark blue tubbed 68 cougar.

kev Im not sure about this, when i bought mr torquer off of dean and a few weeks later i went to his house and he,d bought a mk1 zephyr with rev,s tubed at the rear and bright red.Dean told me it was built by a freind of the harris,s with their help.At the time it had a 302 sbf in it but it kept overheating. It had a cracked liner as far as i remember.Dean sold it to andy keoe.

This was Jimmys car after I'd painted it and done the rear arches. When it came in I think it was mainly beige with 4 burgundy doors which I think came off one of Rons cars. I have some more photo's somewhere that I took during the work , I'll see if I can find them.

As for Tubbed Mk 1s, I think Andys mk 1 was the first to be tubbed [mini Tubs?] it was done at Streatham Crash Repair, Pete did all the tin work, and I machined the 4 bar and locator, I have a strange feeling this was one of the reasons Andy sold the car as he never liked the feel of the car after this,

I know jeff has been and said that all the MK1s are long gone,
the car that really did it for me was Andy's black MK1 683GMV,
last saw it at the pod when it was fully tubbed with split rim revolutions i think?
anyone know its whereabouts now,
broke up? being rebuilt? or on the road on a different reg?

Did the car not reappear a few years after andy sold it on with a SBC in it???

I know Nick Arletts old Powder Blue car was sold on to a fella called Steve Sheppard, then onto Andy Kehoe, who painted its bottom half dark blue, The car is now chrome yellow and lives on the IOW, where the car originally came from

the car that first really got me into mk1s, before i discovered mk2s and a car that made a huge impression on me when i was 16 was andys first ( i think ) pale blue mk1 with a 289, i used to see it driving around, used to work at edmunds walker, a motor factor in croydon and andy came in one day and left the car ticking over in front of the shop, i grinned over that for a long time!

Ron was running the silver escort at the Brighton Speed Trials last year but seam to remember that he was going to retire as said over the speaker. There was a red four pot 105e featured in cc many moons ago that one of the younger Harris,s had.

fair enough! was a nice little anglia though, hot 1600gt and a welded diff, which was a bit naughty... think it might have been written off actually, not sure.

Anyone know anything else about this Anglia? Any pics maybe?

Hi Jeff, long time no see. Hope you are all well.
When i first me Andy back a long time ago he had his first Blue Mk1 Zodiac with if i remember correctly a 260 sunbeam tiger engine fitted, at the time I had a Mk1 zodiac with a MK3 Zodiac engine and floor change box and triple Su carbs. Inspired by his car I bought a 289 Mercury Cougar engine from Steve Thompsons in Thornton heath and following instructions from Andy and Ron snr fitted this in my Mk1.
Not to be outdone Andy then fitted a 302 into his car, but unfortunatly a short while afterwards Andy was forced off the road down Beddington lane and the car hit a lampost.
Andy then looked around for a new car, and so convinced me to sell him my Mk1 less Engine and Box. This became Andy,s second Mk1 , again this one was short lived as this was the one that fell off a Garage ramp in Carshalton one lunchtime and damaged beyond repair, Again not Andy's fault .
The engine and box i was left with went into a MK4 Zodiac. A really easy install as the Early Mk4's had a C4 box, so it was dropped in onto the gearbox mounts and prop without any mods and just new engine mounts to make. A real sleeper that car . That was sold to a friend of Rons and my next car was 1972 Vx4/90 with a 350 Chevy .
God those were happy days, Roy

The ex Andy Kehoe mk1, was sold onto Pete Grange of Hastings. (yes it was his wife that had the big knockers!), pete fitted the 351w, re-painted the car, re-wired it and got it into the 10's.
Pete then sold it too another guy locally, then had it back breifly before selling to a guy down Gloustershire way i think who frighten himself with it and last we heard was planning on a detune!
Pete went on to a bit of off roading before building a pro street Cougar (blue) now orange top blue lower with nineties style graphics. was a shot of it in CC recently.
Last i heard Pete had sold the car on due to a break up with her with the big knockers!!!!
