View Full Version : Anybody remember this 427 66 Impala
Was owned by a mate of mine , Andy Chisolm, in 85 . Totally original numbers matching L72 427/425 4 spd SS , bucket seats , console etc , whoever ordered it new had one thing in mind because the only power option was brakes .
He had a hood and bumpers laid up in f/glass with a black gel coat keeping all the original parts safe , it ran really strong with the factory intake/4bbl but we put a tunnel ram on it with twin 660's and it woulda revved itself to oblivion if you'd let it , iirc it ran a high 12 on street tyres . He raced it for a bit of fun until the chassis started to fatigue just on the bend where it goes up over the back axle , he sold it then and built the Rat Fink Camaro .
He also owned a 70 Hemi Challenger at the same time , that and the Impala have both gone back to the States now :( , a guy posted on the Yenko forums recently with a pic of the Impala as it is today needing full restoration .

Tough car! Quite amazing how some Impala's were spec'd over the years.
Were the Keystone's from Tony Dickson?

Was the Challenger the yellow one(Keith Seume tested it for Hot Car) that ended up being restored to purple and then going back?

Might that be the same Plum Crazy Challenger that Stu Vallance had for a while Steve, it was when he lived in Anerley, next to Crystal Palace park?
I think he bought the Keystones 2nd hand from somebody local .
The Challenger was the one from Hot Car , it was red when he got it and he had it sprayed orange . Maybe the guy he sold it too restored it back to Plum Crazy , I remember it took him quite a long time to sell it for an asking price of £5000 ..........if only we knew then eh .

The original hemi from the Challenger is now in Keith Baker's 32.
I'm not sure if Stuart owned this car or another Al....I vaguely remember it was another. The car got a detailed restoration before leaving the UK but had a replacement block in it.
I do like that Impala though...:)

IMHO the best looking Impala ever made , why they put that big ugly C pillar on the Caprice I'll never know .
Another pic with me about to give him a good look at the tail lights of my 67 Camaro ;)

I lusted after that car! I think I had my 61 Impala Coupe at that time but I always wanted the 66! Nothing like a bad black big block Impala. If only I could have bought it as well as the 61. And my 59. Oh well, time to get another lottery ticket.
Yeah I remember the Impala, and your Camaro. Didn't you have something like 5.13 gears in it? I had to give Andy a jump start in the Hemi once in a nearby gas station - from my hot 6-cyl. '67 Camaro.
The good old days of what seemed like nearly every other weekend at the Pod for a RWYB, AAC weekend, Gary's Picnic, or Doorslammers meeting!
A Hemi Challenger @ £5k, I could cry.
How the Impala's crossed the line from 'Custom 'to 'Muscle' between about ''60 to around '69 - reflecting the customers desire maybe?

LOL yeah never again Andy , I had to stop for petrol twice on the way up to the Pod and Andy's big block made it there and raced all weekend on a tankfull. Wouldn't have minded but I couldn't go over 50mph :D
Just noticed in that pic , it's still got the chrome bumpers on and the cowl induction hood he had laid up before we put the tunnel ram on it .
