i know theres a credit crunch and you will always find a better deal, but dont forget tattoos are for life, and are best left to the professionals ,especially the sterilisation ,health ,hygiene side, ...whats more important your health or your wallet?

Hi Littlehotrod,
Is your wife registered with the local health authority? Even if you're working at home, you can and should still be registered, they will check that the working environment is suitable for tattooing.
I hope that she has been taught correct sterilisation procedures by another tattooist, you can't second guess things like that. It's not enough to just buy 'sterilising' equipment and hope you're doing it right.
Rebecca.

hi 59pickupgal she has been taught by another tattooist.
and the health registration? I'm not trying to appear officious, it's just a responsibility that you have as a proper tattooist to your customers, if you want to be taken seriously. The best thing she can do is get a job in a studio, where she will be working in a proper environment with proper training, she will learn so much more than 'practising' at home....I'm assuming she is working from home that is? As you haven't mentioned a studio in any of your posts?

Then why didn't you say that in the first place! :D....(I wasn't the only one who assumed she was working at home...)
Then good luck to her, tell her to keep drawing :)

glad to hear all is in order mick, my point was to jack, that one good tattoo is better than 7 sh@#e tattoos, with miami ink on in everyones living rooms, many are buying crap equipment from e-bay and think they are tattooists over night , ...a stanley blade and a pair of pliers dont make you a surgeon!

you have to be registered with the environment agency to buy, sell, or transport waste or discarded goods for profit but it dosent seem to bother any one on here or any of the officials on here!

i take it your talking used car parts mark,,,so your saying you should be licenced to transport parts to and from autojumbles, does this apply by the weight you carry?
even applies to car booters carl nothing to do with weight its only about waste and profit

I dont really think you can compere the two, an untrained home tattooist can cause all manor of infections eg hepatitis and hiv. Also where do they discard there sharps and special waste?

i can see eeb,s point ,as with clinical waste or any licences. The responsible ones of us who bother to do things the right way end up paying out, whilst the irresponsible carry on without a care,
i know most tattooists may have started from home years ago ,but people beware of cheap tattoos from someone doing them at home in this day and age,you cannot be sure of hygiene ,when the family pets, kids, and food prep etc is being done, premises are registered, therefore someone calling at your home or working from home is not thinking about your health ,if they have invested in all the correct steilization eqip, training, then they would not be doing cheap tattoos
Well, how can i put this.......i have got home made tattoos that i done when i was in my mid teens, then i got some done by a friend who done some from his home and he was registered with local council to work from home, but to be honest i would ONLY go to a proper tattoo shop now, as said earlier they are there for life..............toad
