Brian

Love it... I still find it amazing that stuff like that was being built in England in the 60s and 70s.
What was the “Hot Rod News Sheet” do you have any other copies?

Thanks Pete

Yes, Bri have you any more details on the news sheet...sound intreguing.I remember when Johns coupe was featured, it blew me away......and I`m not easily impressed. At first I thought it was a spoof feature, you just did`nt get cars like that over here.If you are still in touch with John, try and get him to post on here, and let us know what happened with the coupe.

Thanks for the pics.

Sorry thats the only one I held on to, I gave all the others away.I sent John an email a cople of years ago & he told me he still has the coupe & he did fit an ARDUN O.H.V convertion to the Flathead. John did tell me when he purchased the coupe in 72 that was his idea in the future & remembered I said that I thought the convertion spoiled the look of the Flathead v8. A friend of mine who used to race motor cycle out fits at Cadwell park told me he`d seen a rite hand drive 32 coupe when he was shopping in L.A. Roger Reed now lives there with his American wife, lucky devil & said to his wife "thats like the coupe Bri had", he didn`t realise it was mine till he saw the Reg....Roger was one of the guy`s who was in parnership with John Fords 36 Ford CABRO. Chicago John has kept the same reg .I hope C.John may read this & gets him to start putting some Roddin input on this site..I bet he`s got a lot of stories to tell.. Come on Steve of LIMEWORKS HOT ROD shop., If you remember, you put me back in touch with John & his brother Kev who used work for you. See if you can get John back on the English Rod scene......Bri

That car - and Chicago John's writeup also appeared in Hot Rod & Custom UK. Made me go all weak in my nobbly knees...

Right, I know I still have a box of Rod and Customs somewhere so now I want to find that article. Anyone know what issue that was in so I can cut down on the search time ?

Hi Kim here`s a pic out of C.C. but I can`t remember which mag it was in. I do know I was green with envy when I saw what John had done with the Deuce Coupe, it looked great, like I said before on other N.S.R.A. threads " The coupe is now a real American Hot Rod ". You did a super job on it John..There`s also a pic when the coupe made it in the Grimsby Evening Telegraph every one kept saying oh its a model T ford.....As if............Bri

I only met John once back in the 70s when he came down to London to view a chopped Ford Pilot which my mate was selling.I do believe he still has it under wraps somewhere in south London.

Hi Holmsey, That address was my first house that I purchased for £750.00 My mate John Gilbey , John Parry & me used to read American "Hot Rod Mag" till the early hrs in the morning. one nite I decided I was going to send a money order to Edd Roth for one of his Weirdo sweat shirts, my mates said no chance you`ll loose your money, no phone or credit cars in those days ,anyway I sent for it. I waited 2mths, & no sweat shirt so I wrote a very strong letter to good old Edd, asking him to send my money back. Four mths later Id given it up for lost. I came home from work & my wife said you`ve got a weird parcel that came this morning. Wow I couldn`t believe it. The brown parcel was air brushed all over with fancy pinstriped designs & colours my name & address was air brushed & yes inside was my sweat shirt & a letter of apolergy. Im afraid that super brown envelope is lost forever due to 3 house moves, but the memory lives on. My two mates were green with envy. Thats the only sweat shirt that I completely wore out. Edd Roth & Norm Gabroski were two of my hero`s ..............Cheer`s Bri

Hi guys
thought i`d add my bit,i first saw John`s coupe in Manchester around thirty years ago,John was and still is a pal of my cousin Howard Greenfield(founder of the Rattlers Phoenix Arizona).I was an impressionable kid of 13 who loved all things hot rod (thanks to Howard)and there in the middle of Moston, Manchester was a real American hot rod!!the car moved me and John was the archetypal American hot rodder.Move on to 2006 and following a weekend at Bakersfield for the hot rod reunion we hit the road to L A staying the night at Johns, the coupe was there in his garage,i don`t think it has ever run with the ardun conversion! infact i don`t think it has run for some time, but john treated me to a ride in his hot 1940 ford which is just one of many projects he has on the go.
2008 saw me back for the chhr(great experience) and back at Johns, however john was abroad, but it was great to see the coupe again,it was the car that had it all for me. John is a real nice guy who by the way makes the best tea you could have in America!!
