Hi
does anyone have info on who has a good on-line parts service in UK for Yank/hot rod/drag racing parts (all or any of those). I have often just ordered stuff from Summit Racing in US as it has a great on-line shop, turns orders around quickly and I can take my time reviewing the catalogue and ordering stuff after hours. I would however love to find something similar in UK if that exists (especially with the weak Sterling vs Dollar!). I never get the time to spend on the phone during office hours and I usually know what I need so dont actually need to speak to anyone!
Any info or links appreciated.
Cheers
Paul

I'm afraid the weak pound is gonna hit you anyway. It all comes from the states, so a UK supplier will have to base his prices on the dollar rate.

Robison Race Cars now take Paypal and you can order online, so that's the drag bits sorted!
Repower, In East Sussex?
Real Steel?

Hope That Helps

64II, thanks for the heads up on Robinson Race Cars. That is great. Paypal is a real pain if a transaction goes wrong with the vendor/buyer but I do use it all the time because it is very quick and easy.

Regarding the weak Sterling, that is true we will get hit on prices anyway as the parts originate from US but I can't avoid that and at least a UK supplier should have some benefit of shipping in bulk. When the Sterling was very strong vs the dollar (2:1) I was frustrated as (most?) UK suppliers didnt seem to pass the savings onto the customer which, whilst their choice, just meant that I bought stuff directly from US. I am in US with work from time to time so I would bring back parts in my luggage - everything from induction set-ups to suspension and exhaust systems! I suppose there are some things I would always rather buy in UK if I wanted sales back-up or the ability to return/swap a part. It also helps to have someone local with fitting etc help rather than trying to deal with a 5-8hr time difference! If parts access/buying was easier in UK I would probably use both as it is nice to support UK suppliers trying to support the scene.
Especially in the current economic climate there is a risk that the large number of parts suppliers and car builders which have grown up over the last decade in the UK during the economic boom time may really suffer.
cheers

I built my altered with parts I bulk ordered for the states. I've had technical support from Edelbrock, Coan, Reid, Summit, Holley, TCI, Barry Grant etc, all were pretty much spot on, very helpful. The only probelem at the time was shipping prices was on the increase so overall after shipping I was only saving 20% but i spent £7K so was sufficient to warrant doing it.

Sorry to say but UK based companies are a waste of time if they don't have it in stock. They generally bulk ship over 6 weeks from the US to save on shipping costs. Your better off paying a bit extra to ship it to yourself directly, then it's in your control to expedite it, clear it through customs or follow up with the supplier etc. Things I've ordered in the UK from reputable companies have just caused me agro tbh. Waited 10 weeks for something I could see sitting in stock at Summit, UK distributor just didn't get prioity from the manufacturer.
