cheers for the offer but I'm gona have to section the one I have anyway....
if its the insert, don't section it, it doesn't work, you see the join in the grille bars. strip the chrome, cut the required amount from the bottom, file the corners to fit the surround and replace the outer section with a thin strip of plasticard, glued in stages to follow the curve.

I decided to get my ass in gear this afternoon and although I was going to give it a rest today I found that I couldn't find anything on the box and was too nackered to go into the garage so thought I would get started on the diorama for the 32... Not wanting to waste the 5 window I had and having raped most of the parts from the kit, I decided to do a roadside wreck as a companion piece for the 3 window... here you go and be gentle, its not finished yet.

Stop putting yourself down there bud...the chop is great and it has that " I wana be a hotwheels when I grow up " feel about it...Love it!! Even in Black and White I can see the metalic look of the paint... looks like flake...mmmmmm flake....
I like the direction your going so you just keep going in that direction...
tonight it put the carbs on, made the wheels up....chrome steels and pie crusts on the back, put the front wheels and brakes on the axle...and sectioned the body....and I have a grill shell for it...very slim and very not 32 at all!!!...a pic may follow of the mock up if I can down load the pic!

I had originally gone for bobbed fenders, but I couldnt get it as low as I wanted with them on. (I fitted them first). Theyve gone now, never to return.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/Morbius666/BOBS.jpg
The hood cover isnt being used anymore either, as Ive had to pull the rear axle and body back - so its a bit short!
I really have learnt LOADS with this build, ive never 'cut' one before, but im loving it!:D:D:D:D:D

Well I decided to make some good out of a bad day and got a little more done on the model front... As I didnt have the wire I needed to finish of the car, I decided to do the hinges on the doors and trunk...after a lot of thinking and lots of bent up brass wire I finally managed to suss it and have managed to take step by step photos on how to do it...so if anyone is interested on how to hinge doors on a model kit then let me know and I will put it together and send it to you... I will post a couple of pics soon.
I did however work on a few items to compliment the kit... I can see myself going blind by the end of this damn build...

I remember the kit being 'reviewed' by a modelling mag and they said that the proportions were pretty good. Unlike some other '32 kits....
it's prob the best early 30's kit on the market in my view.
Made little progress on mine, have got the engine built up, wired and plumbed but got lots of painting to do, but the weathers too cold for paint at momment. To be honest I can't see me finishing on time.

I think it`s one of the best `32 rod kits out there, for detail and authenticity.
The variation of the kit we are all (well, most of us ... Jase:D) working on was actually voted best kit of the year by a lot of US model magazines, when issued in the `90s...

My fave kit ever too. Never took knife/dremel/saw to a kit before. I cant see me 'not' doing so in future. Im 'throwing' together a T at the moment too, one of the goodguys ones - all the chrome parts were really badly moulded, but with what ive learnt over the past few weeks, ive just chopped it to bits and rebuilt it. Its err a bit ratty.:o
I have done a few kits but this has to be the best kit i have done thats why i said lets do this one the lines are just right
This kit is based on an actual rod, owned by Californian rodder Richard Hart, hence the accurate detail and dimensions. This kit was followed by the Dan Fink `Speedwagon` `32 woody phantom, and then a highboy roadster, all with the same excellent detail.
A year later Revell produced some fat fendered Ford cars, a `48 Convertible (with a nicely detailed hopped up flattie), a `48 Woody and then a `40 convertible. All with the same beautiful attention to detail and proportions as the `32 coupe.
All well worth seeking out if your into early bodied (as in pre `49 style) rod kits...
I decided to get my ass in gear this afternoon and although I was going to give it a rest today I found that I couldn't find anything on the box and was too nackered to go into the garage so thought I would get started on the diorama for the 32... Not wanting to waste the 5 window I had and having raped most of the parts from the kit, I decided to do a roadside wreck as a companion piece for the 3 window... here you go and be gentle, its not finished yet.

i was looking at the box tonite...the one i had in front of me was the one with the gloss black example on the lid..i think if you look closely it has indi front suspension in the photo so nothing to do with the model... the thing that looks wrong to me is the length of the model...its too squat in my eyes.... i`ve lowered the suspension and given it the usual rake with big and littles but it still looks out of proportion.... i`ll take some pics and show you what i mean...but there again it could still be my crap modelling skills:eek::D

I love that brown and cream combo with the slanted chop...top fella....The engine is great, where did you get that one from?
This thread has really fired me up and as I cant get under a real one anymore (long story) I can really be a table top rodder.... of course the discussion will now have to be Plastic or Resin.... instead of glass or steel.
Hey Pottsy...your right, I love it..there is another thread on here with more youtubes on it.... They are fantastic..obviously this guys life work and would have to be.... must be a few $1000 worth of kits shown and the time to do each one would be three times the time to build it out of the box... very impressed indeed.

Funny thing how we hit a mental barrier with a model in the same way as the real thing! I've got realistic this morning and realised how little time is left. I'm only capable of doing this in short bursts as I can't sit for too long so time to asses the future. I've realised that the drop beam and hand built hairpins is not going to happen so I'm gonna have to stick with the tube. That'll get the purists jumping but I have no choice now....it's gone in. One or two other details that I underestimated time wise so they will be left but the overall concept is working. I had all sorts in my head but the time combined with my lack of experience has brought me back down to earth!
Went to take some pics but the batteries are flat so hopefully in the week we will see some.:(

Hoping the pics come out ok cos if not I can't help thinking that the "competition" might be judged more on peoples ability to photograph these "damned" things than owt else!! I did try briefly to get the piece out with full safety gear in place. As a young lad I did the same thing and ended up in hospital with a bright yellow face and eyes... ;):D:(

Why is it when you look at it you think...Ahhh finished...then you start coming upwith more hair brained ideas to improve it...I mean where do you stop?
Its not like normal model makers… They look at the kit as a sum of its parts but we see the individual parts and try to see how we can make the bloody things work... I was thinking of having the heads off and a little bloke working on it with pistons and ****... It is making me crazy....I have had to step away from it for a bit before it becomes an obsession… ops too damn late for that…I have only gone and bought another few kits to do…
One order of insanity to table three….

nothing more on the body but the engines complete, scratchbuilt all the AN fittings, braided hose, barrell valve, injector plumbing, throttle linkage, throtle cable and plug boots since the last photo's. Just need to do some filler work on the body then start painting. Will be experimenting with some Alclad 2 which is supposd to be the closest paint finish to chrome you can get. I'll try and post some more pics this weekend

I have the same issues...I've been building models since I was 15, must have spent thousands....and I have to show for it approx 10-12 unfinished projects, a huge parts bin and loads of completed models which have then been butcher for parts...I'm definatley not a collector...in fact the best models I've built we're replicas I used to sell of Autograss Mini's....and the only reason they survived was because I sold them.....
Elmo you have email mate!;)
I was thinking of having the heads off and a little bloke working on it with pistons and *poo*... ….
Elmo...I was gona do that...the engine in my model came with separate heads, with the chambers and valves moulded in, the block had different level "pistons" in the cylinders and even had a moulded crank ....it was real shame to glue it all together and hide it all

i just cant beieve that time has flown by and the extent of detailing hasnt gone much past wiring the dizzy........the braided lines are sat there and the amount of bits i have yet to paint and attach is just stupid............in terms of the paint....i just used the humbrol metallic silver one and its not to bad.....you've now got me thinking about that Alclad stuff....let us know how you get on with it

I finished a previously abandoned T that I had hanging about. Purely experimental with minimal attention to detail. I just enjoyed chopping the bits about! Its also a Revell goodguys kit.
z'd chassis, chanelled, new trans tunnel, roof and window choppage, flipped axle, lowered etc. No attention to detail though, purely experimental!

oh, and thanks!
chassis just about done.....as in real 60's show cars.....there's no prop yet!
fabricated a front body extension that covers part of the engine and a rear "grill"
started the filling as well...all it needs now is final filling and paint and then assembly
Got a bit more progress done on mine, have a rolling chassi and primered and done the first 2 coats of paint so when i have finished the spray job just have a few bits to glue together and im done, recon i will be done by thur's by latest. WOOHOO!!!!
Although I am not a model builder, or have any aspirations to be one, I am really enjoying this competition. The quality of the in progress shots is really quite amazing, and I don't envy the job the judges will have when it comes time to pick winners.
Some of you may have seen the Texas event threads that I posted last year. At each of these events I bought an extra T shirt, as well as a couple from rod shops over here. If it is OK with the organizers of the contest, I would like to offer one of these as another prize to add to the bounty. I can post pictures of the selection, and the winner gets his or her choice. Just don't ask me to pick who.
By the way, I think they are all size XL.

Jane i have talked to alot of people since this comp started and every single one of them have had nothing to say apart from its been so long since they have seen something so interesting happen and they love it even if they dont build models themselfs they say its really cool, on your point of there being no fighting or diputes no there aint and we are all helping each other out it is fantastic! but then i cast my mind back to my old biking and hot rodding days many many years ago and do you know what i remember about it most? the unity of it all in theold days seems strange but its funny how things can make it all seem sence again, do you understand what i mean????????? or am i just drunk lol

Still waiting for mine from Nited Steets of Mureka since mid December. Presumably been sent the long way round
Having paid for the model plus international carriage, it seems MyAtomic.com are claiming they want more money and had sent another payment request, which I've not received so despite thinking it was winging its way across the pond, it was still sitting on a shelf in the good ol' US of A.
I told them to stick the order and refund me - so unless anyone has a spare kit as Duncan Bannatine would say I'M OUT :(

As only a few have posted build up's so far I'm guessing that many of you want to keep your ideas secret. That's fair enough but please consider posting build up's at some stage as we are all interested in seeing them.
