View Full Version : The confirmed Survivors list
As there are so many people trying to find old rods and customs ,why dont we have a thread seeing how many survive and are confirmed to be around whether it being rebuilt or on the road
I will start with a couple that i know off
This Cortina was featured in SM in 83 and got me into the whole custom scene

I saw this car at Guildford Cruise about four years ago and its was for sale ,sadly couldnt raise the funds to buy it and needed a makeover ,since then its been sold about three times on Ebay and is on you tube
see here

I believe its in scotland somewhere and looks like this now ,last time i saw it it looked like the rear o/s/ wing was bent (like its had been hit from behind )and been repaired badly ,the blue vinyal roof had been painted black .

Celestrial is still around after being a museum for a few years ,gather it was sold recently ,but whereabouts unknown
My own car " Street Dream " Mk1 Cortina is still around ,been stored since 89 and is undergoing restoration this year hopefully

The black six wheel Mk2 Transit "3001"featured in one of the mags in the 80s is being put back together.Pics seen on a Transit Forum last year.

Here's one, Ray Christophers center door T replica which debuted in 1978.
Its not mine but I'm doing some work on it for Bob Shell who now owns it. I'm lowering the rear by building a new higher crossmember for the jag irs, fitting just pair of carriage lamps to the rear in place of the mish mash thats on there now, making a hidden removable tow bar and load of tidying up type jobs ready for the season. Bobs long term plan is to fully rebuild it to show condition as Ray had it in Roman Bronze but with bigger diameter wires for a more modern twist. Oh and a small block chev instead of the stinky diesel which has found its way in there:eek:[:O]

I've got two now. The first I already had in an old record collection long before I bought the Pop without realising what I had. The second was off ebay, for not a lot, after a tip off from somebody on here. The long term plan is to pass one on to the new owner, if I ever decide to sell that is, and keep one for myself. If you really want to give it up PM me and we can deal mate. Quite fancy a third copy with a clock mechanism in it.... That'd look cool eh!

Don't get to excited about seeing 'Speedfreak' on the road any time soon, I'm not a gambling man but I'd bet it never see's the road again. It's in limbo at the moment, the present owner has neither the inclination to finish it and will never sell it!

When Rick Hughes stripped it down for a rebuild he threw the grille and surround into a skip, I called with Mick Tebbs to see how he was getting on with the build and saw the grille and stuck it in my boot:)
Cheers for posting the pic of my old T Mick:)

I think Nitemares Racing has the old John Baldachino(sp) HA van in his workshop awaiting a rebuild someday...
And I believe the Satisfaction MK3 Cortina is in a lock-up Nottingham somewhere
I'd love to see both of these icons revived.
:D
Keep up Steve :) ....... The Baldy van has been back out for a year or two now and is often seen at shows.
Satisfaction is also on the road again, albeit without the flames.

It's not on the road, it's been on a 4 post ramp for the last three years.
The flames have gone though (for now!).

Remember seeing Jam Roller at Billing years ago. It was for sale, stripped on the back of a low loader.
Shame to see it like this. Are there any plans for it?
We were commenting on how the chop looks very similar to the one on my Aunt's Austin 10/4.
This is a survivor too, having been rodded in the 70's and called Amber Gambler. Been daily driven by my Aunt for over 20 years now.

Is that the most recent paint on Sue's Austin Gavin? It was straight red last time I saw it I think, but it's had loads of different paint jobs over the years. Any idea how many?
I remember when Wayne Saunders painted it candy red and back when his ex Leila had it. Come to that I remember it when it was first built and painted burnt orange candy, with the plate AGW5, hence "Amber Gamble Wagon".

AL i think you may find the late Mick cook painted it candy red and black.
Cheers Ian
Hi Al. I believe it was Mick who painted it candy red with black wings and running boards.
Clive and Sue still have the AGW 5 plates in the garage. This is the latest paint job. Also underwent a bit of an update. Wisbech stainless front. Rear wings narrowed.
God knows how many paint jobs it has has! eeerrrrr...
Burnt orange candy, candy red and black, black with big pink drips, blue with purple blue flames, straight red, now black and flamed.
That may not be all of em!

Sorry guys, I did know Mick Cook painted it, what I meant was when Wayne had it. One thing's for sure, it's been round the block a few times and still looks great.

Certainly has. Can't be many out there that have been used so regularly.

Think you might be right about the reg mate. Think they just kept the plates as a momento.
Sounds about right with the engine. It was partially stripped when they bought it and I don't think a motor was with it. My uncle slotted a 1600 crossflow in and built it back up.

heres as it was, ally pally 79 & 2nd essex clubs run 79.
Mark where in Essex was the club run.Was that just the "Streeters"
I remember in old CC there was a line up of Steves Mk2,a 55 Chevy conv,Chopped mk1 Consul,a black mk2 which must be that one in the picture and a chopper.
Steve Dodd's old mk2 was in the classifieds not too many years ago. Either CC or SM. About £900 I think the guy was after. The pic showed the car in a less than sparkling state than it was years ago, but still blue and white with the rake and the five spokes ..
Wasn't the streeters Romford based with a ragtop 55 and Lemon squash part of the line-up. One of the 79 CC's had a black and white feature on them. Think they may of been a cruisin the clubs feature too in Hot Car

it was at the essex showground where the nats was held which now has a road thru and a horse racing track with no horseys racing on it!! Check out the pics............the yellow hemi t was i think tim horsefalls?, the red vauxhall behind the t was gary wilsons, it became the what a commotion gull winged multicoloured one, (dont confuse it with the other one which was all black one time & all red another, that one was recently on e bay, in a state the owner was threatening to turn it into a hill climber if it didnt sell!!), love to know what happened to garys one, loved it awesome for its time. i think the 57s were roger butterworths & charlie potters, but im sure ken will put me right!!, cant remember who had the flathead t, but i think that was marty babbs 100e squire? behind it, marty was connected with the chelmsford club & the eastern cruisers.

I think Terry sold it back to a member of the original builder family, son or nephew or something..
