View Full Version : Fibreglass - Do I HAVE to paint it?

I've ordered a fibreglass bonnet for my project car.
The car is yellow, but I want the new bonnet to be black. I mentioned this to the chap who is making the bonnet at Honeybourn Moldings.
He said that for an extra fiver he would make the bonnet with a black gel coat rather than the usual white.
So, I decided to go for that option on the basis that if I do have to get it painted and it gets scratched, it'll be harder to tell.

Can I bolt this to the car as it is or am I obliged to get it painted?
The car lives outside and is going to be used every day from mid january clocking up around 12,000 miles a year in all weathers.

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Cheers,

-JC

Why ask?

Maybe he is unsure of what to do.

That's why people ask.............

you dont have to paint it, leave it in gelcoat until you get fed up of it.

why ask,

I've never used the stuff before so thought it prudent to ask?
I know not to leave a steel panel bare, but i've no idea how unpainted fibreglass would behave.

I decided to go for the fibreglass panel purely for cost reasons.

An aluminium pannel is £450 - £600 assuming you can find one. Fibreglass is £105 delivered plus a fiver for the black gelcoat instead of white.
