Thinking about the Installation of my heater (thanks 4potter), I want to put it under the seat in my A, one of the water pipes will be close to the floor when installed, can I use a rigid copper pipe run around the heater and through the floor, and then connect it to the flexi heater hose (to the engine).

The other reason I would like to use rigid pipe is I can get 90º bends as there’s not much room, will the rigid pipe crack at the joint(s) ?? (thinking along the lines of domestic heating installation)

Do I need to swage the ends on the copper pipe ??

Hope this makes sense

Keith

Or am I being paranoid and should I just get on with it ! :D

I have used some copper pipe for heater connections on my car. Where it runs in the car it's held rigid, with rubber running off to the engine.

I didn't swage the pipe end, I put an olive on the end by doing up a compression fitting nice and tight, then removed the fitting off the end of the pipe before I then connected all my bends etc that were soldered on.

It's not dissimilar to what OEM use.

Your other option would be Hep2O (http://leapltd.co.nz/plumbing/hep20/product_selector.php). That is all push fit connectors and fairly flexible, although your rubber connection at the end could be hard work.

Normally 15mm copper pipe should be fine, good idea on the olive on the end Klunk ! just solder it up as normal and give the hose plenty of movement

You can also use 15mm stainless pipe on any shown bits in the engine bay.

And you can get 15mm chromed pipe and compression fittings

Chrome copper pipe is available at any plumbing supplier, A lot cheaper than B&Q

You can also bend it without damaging chrome.
