The Chelsea cruise still goes on since it's resurrection of a few years back but when ( and maybe why ? ) did you stop going during it's heyday ?

I only went once in early '79 in my '57 Sort Coupe without the front bumper. Only once but Ken got a picture of it and posted it on here. It's truly amazing the photos that are out there.

I never stopped going...
We regularly drive to Chelsea on the weekends, sometimes when the cruise is on and sometimes when it is not, Fridays too.... You can't beat cruising up the King's Road slow as F**k, and driving around London on a Friday or Saturday night, it's banging..... Beats sitting indoors. :)
It really does take a couple of hours and a tank full of gas, just to do one circuit...
I used to go religiously ,from about 3 months after the official ( 1977 ? ) start , stopped going as often when the opened the park and made us do just that ,park. I remember the very last of the old cruises I did vividly .
Unplugged myself from dialysis just 2 weeks after failure ( so that's July 1988) and drove up there from Portsmouth. Spotted my my old branch manger up there driving his Pontiac Chieftain about and stopped for a chat . He drove off so I went to go back on the cruise and the clutch cable on my Cal Look Beetle snapped. That was 10.00
I wasn't really feeling up to rolling on the floor bodging it together so called the RAC and told them I needed a tilt and lift. 3 vehicles later we got on board a recovery truck ( 1.00 ) and proceeded to be driven home flat out. Last thing I remember was the guy playing 'Doctoring the Tardis ' full bore as we drove over Chelsea Bridge. When I woke up outside my house the damn track was still playing !!

I went from the first cruise, so much the same here Kev. Later, when to much police involvement took the spontaneity and fun out of it, I stopped going on a regular basis. Last time was at the beginning of last year...

I think the last time I went with a rod was just before they put the (then) new parking restrictions on the bridge, although I did try to actually cruise around to live up to it's name! Lately, every time it's on, I'm working so just have to drive by if in the area. Prior to that, did a few in various vehicles when we could park in the park over by the Albert.

Same here ,used to go for many years up til around 95 when serveral maxpower ****s tryed to hit my car or do stupid stuff near my freshly painted Granada Mk2
So i gave up ,police was in force and never bothered going back until some members of oldskoolford asked me to give it another try .
Sadly its still ruined by the minority doing stupid stunts ,im no killjoy but when you spend time and lots of money you dont want it ruined by a **** driving like a nutter !

Used to go quite regularly up until about two years ago when I finally got a car that would fit in. Tried to go many many times in that car but it failed disasterously EVERY time with the final time needing a tow truck so I finally decided it was jinxed and gave up. I have a different car now and I'll be trying again tomorrow. See you all up there :)

Interesting - now if only the 'huffer' could be a real one! Any idea what happened to Russ Wards 'B'.
see attachment for '68 Javelin that I was using at that time (poor image, view at 100%)

Last time I saw Russ Ward's B it was at Thruxton 1982 run by Dave Palmer who'd un-channeled it, swaped the Caddy for a Ford V6 and fitted a Jag IRS........ http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m149/timetraveldvds/THRUXTON1982050.jpg http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m149/timetraveldvds/THRUXTON1982051.jpg

For me it was cruising the King's Road that made it and posing static in the park became boring. It was always a fun challenge to get past the boys in blue and into the King's road. Like many, got pulled. On one occasion spent half hour debating the fact that I had bias belted rubber on the rear and radials on the front. Plod wasn't sure of his facts so just warned me not to return. I seem to remember the first time I went Hot n Bothered was about. Great memories
