Nick....those are some of the most enjoyable pics I've seen documenting that period. Thanks so much for building up what is a tremendous resource and reminder of how things were and a huge thanks to Tony for sharing them. As well as the car pics it's great to see Tony's bike shots!
How I'd love to be able to step back into one of those early meets just for an hour or two.

Many thanks for your kind words, it really is my pleasure. Really pleased you also liked the bikes.
Those days were indeed very cool.
Thanks again, Tony

I was with Ken Thursday and he's been told that it was shipped overseas, maybe to the US, though this is un-confirmed.

Really great photos!
We are very lucky that guys like Tony kept all these fantastic images of the last 40 years or so, I attended most of the early Santa Pod meetings but didn't always have a camera handy, so these memories bring it all back, thanks! http://www.nsra.org.uk/newforum/images/icons/icon14.gif

My pics go back to the early seventies but it's those sixties shots of both racing and 'cars in streets' that do it for me. Seeing fifties Americana with dirt, dings and blackwalls is addictive!

Steve, hope all ok with you. The Ken Cooper cabriolet landed up with a restorer called Brian Belcher and ultimately was sold to a restorer who put back to stock. Andy Maclean was the last UK owner and sold it a few years back now residing in Denmark. The current owner converted from RHD to LHD. Out of interest I own the 32 grille shell that was originally on it when it was rodded. Keith

Thanks Keith....I just find it fascinating that each car in these early shots posted on here lately has a story to tell.
I'm fine by the way....thanks for asking:)

Thanks, I'm really chuffed with this response.
Sorry but all the pics I took of your car were ruined as I drooled all over them.

As a footnote to this & other topics re very early pics of drag racing etc., you may like to know that at the annual Drag Racing awards dinner next Saturday night (7th Feb), the latest nominees will be inducted into the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame. Amongst these will be John Bennett who founded Santa Pod raceway & who I have the very good fortune to have known & worked with since around 196*(!). Without him intervening & persuading Ernie Braddick to not sell his pig farm to developers & then, together with the Phelps' establishing the race track, drag racing may never have gone beyond an occasional demo-only attraction. Myself & my fellow BHRA Pioneers feel this acknowledgement is long overdue for someone who had seemingly been forgotten amongst the more well-known "faces".

Wow Bob! I have very fond memories as a child going with my dad to Brian's and Tommy Jeakins'. I never fail to be amazed at how many early Ford's especially 32's that have passed through Brians hands (my 3 win for one)

is this yours or was?? Hi Great pics from Santa Pod. In those days I didn`t take a camera with me & Im hoping someone on this site will come up with a pic of my Blue 32 Ford Coupe. I went to Santa Pod in it around 1968/ 70. This yellow Rod is a 29 Nash was owned by a Cleethorpes guy called Ron Smith. He purchased it from Florida it originally had wooden artillery wheels & a straght 6 motor. I reluctantly fitted a Jag rear axle & SBC. I told him to leave it stock & get an old Ford, but he didn`t know anything about Rods. at that time I was building my 34 Ford Coupe.............Cheer`s Bri
Might have can you say what it look like 5 or 3 window reg number etc could help Ken

When I went to the Pod in it, my bro was in the front with me & I had two guys in the rumble seat, They allowed me to park up at the pits & spectators were all over my coupe firing questions at me. there were also lots of guys with movie camera`s shooting as we drove up, I sure would like to get some copies of them.It was a great golden day..........Bri
I have not any pics of it Bri. No wonder there was a crowd did not see any Coupes about that long ago. Have you checked Time travel lately he is always up dating the pictures he gets Bri. I remember seeing my first rod about 1960. Me and my brother see i am sure a 32 roadster red on the A127 Southend Rd never saw it again perhaps we had been drinking but i dont think so LOL
