found a thread on the old board also found this info on another site
May 28th/29th 1966Whitsun. SPR Big Go. Alan Allard competed in his Dragon Anglia which he debuted at this meeting. The car was powered by a Shorrocks-blown 1500cc Ford Cortina motor producing 220bhp as used in the Allard Dragon rail. Fuel starvation to the blower prevented any successful runs.
June 26th 1966Santa Pod Raceway. BDRA Meeting. Alan Allards blown 1500cc Anglia produced its first good runs with rubber-burning sideways launches and rapid gearchanges. A 13.99 was followed by a 13.54 in qualifying.
August 14th 1966SPR. Alan Allard took his Ford powered Anglia Altered to new records of 13.126/105.93 in D/CA
I've been looking for this car for a while now.I spoke to Tony Beadle who was a friend of Roy Green who bought it in the early '80s and put a Pinto engine, autobox and a Westminster rear end in it and ran it at the drags. He then sold it and it disappeared.A wanted ad on the Eurodragster site got me one reply, from Spain. Now I've experience of scammers but this guy just had to be one,so once again the trail goes clold............
thats one car i would love to see replicated, along with-
"itsaviva",
"wild Honey"(which is being done)

The old thread....
Cheers Steve great bit of reading on that piece.
I was a little involved with a group 'C' prototype back in the '90s. It was called an Allard and Alan attended all of the tests at Pembry. He was a very pleasant guy and still very interested in motorsport. Unfortuneatly the car did not get much beyond the testing stage. When you get to that level politics and money mean more than history.

I'm sure I have some more pics somewhere & there were several in various issues of Drag Racing & Hot Rod magazine, including a cover IIRC.
Ironically, I was to meet up with Alan again tomorrow at the SPR/SCR awards dinner but he's snowed in at home in Wales & won't be able to make it, neither will I due to expected weather conditions norf of Lunnen!
I used to serve on the committee of the BDR&HRA with Alan in the 70s, thoroughly nice chap, don't you know!:)

The first time I saw the Allard 'Dragoon' was at the 1966 Racing Car Show at Olympia, as a teenager I was really knocked out by this car. In the sixties if you owned Anglia you just had to lower the suspension and put a set of 5 1/2" J rims, plus a Peco Big bore silencer, then you really got noticed!
I lived a mile or so from Allards 'speed shop' in Putney, south London, as kids we'd pull up on our push bikes and stare in the window at all the amazing goodies. The Putney facility was Allards speed equipment showroom, inside, on display was the famous blue metalflake Dragoon Anglia plus the Allard Dragon Dragster which could be bought in kit form complete with a 1498cc Shorrock blown engine for £600. The chassis were built in the workshop at the rear of the showroom.
Allards were also the UK's main distributor for Moon Equipment, they sold everything from Moon tanks to tee shirts and of course the famous Mooneyes decals, our push bikes were adorned with Moon & Isky Cam decals, real sharp back in '66.
The Allard Dragoon Anglia is a real part of British Drag racing history, maybe somebody should restore it, it would be great to see it in all it's original glory once more!
I found this photo on a previous thread, I'm not sure who posted it originally (Timetravel perhaps) it really shows how popular this car was back in 1966. Thanks for the photo!!

Great Al,I too fondly remember that place,I remember as a 15 year old buying a 'Potvin Eliminator Cams' T shirt from there. The first low buck thing to do on an Anglia back then was remove the hubcaps!...and if you had a 1200cc you had a hot rod!
Hello. I worked across the road from Allards in Acre Lane. Brixton in 65/66. I can remember to celibrate Fords new model, the Zephyr/Zodiac mark IV. They brought in a number of cars to go on display. There were race and rally cars, and dragsters there. I hate to say this now. But the only car there that I was interested in was the GT40. But stupidly, I didn't take any pictures of the dragsters. It's strange the way things pan out. But I can still remember looking at these dragsters and thinking "What are these odd looking unfinished cars doing here". They were finished but because they didn't have body work on them, to me they were unfinished. Did I have to explain that. I can't remember if the Anglia dragster was there. But I guess it was. I will have to find my pre 1970 negatives to see what pictures I took that day. There were two guys that worked there. They looked like Beach Boys with there blonde hair. They both had Anglia 105e's. They were real nice looking cars. They were both mustard colour and had lots of louvres on the bonnet. Didn't get any pictures of these either. (idiot).
Could have been the Beach Boys on one of there CD covers they are standing next to an Allard dragster the supercharged 1500cc ones. Must have been in the UK. But i guees it was not them!

I raced against Alan [ early 70's ] in my blown Renault R8 Gordini [ 1200cc ]. The Gordini could hold the Anglia to about mid track and then he moved away. Gave him a scare on a couple of occassions with massive hole shots and he just took me in the lights ! The car was classed as a Comp Altered as the engine was "set back" more than 20% [ no it wasn't ].
He was so impressed with the Gordini's performance [ Shorrock blown ] that he sponsored me with blowers and parts. Eventually the R8 was retired as it was really a circuit car and I built a purpose designed Renault Dauphine with blown injected 1200cc non-crossflow engine. Had to race as a dragster as the engine was deemed to be set back .. dooohhh - It started out life there !!!
Alan was a truly nice down to earth bloke and our paths crossed again sometime in the 1970's when he bought an old Hemi from me [ Muscle City ] for the Allard rail.

Not being my `kind` of car, I didn't pay much attention to the R8 or Dauphine other than looking over the blown motors out of interest while in the pits T.J., but I do remember them running on the strip back then and giving a good account of themselves too :)...

Just a brief flirtation with my ex. roundy round car and Dauphine - just to prove a point. Even the Dauphine gave some of the rails a scare !
Soon went on with Keith Harvie - to "Firbrewed", Lawce Bros & Gunn Comp Altered before I bought back my old Mustang - Jon Ledtser's "Big John" and my last trip down Nostalgia alley - I bought back Mick Cheley's old "Mr. Shifter" 27 T Altered and totally rebuilt it with 502ci Ford with 3 stage NOS and Glide.

I bought it back from John when he retired from racing - after the clutch exploded and took a big lump of his calf muscle off !
I rebuilt it when I ran Muscle City in Birmingham as "Shiftin' Sands" and it was eventually sold off to a customer "ooop North" to vanish forever !

Thanks, I remember the explosion at Snetterton.
Yes, I believe it was. That accident prompted John to sell that car - that's where I stepped in ! I had known John for a long time - initially as a customer at Americar - then he bought the Mustang from us. Bootsie was responsible for welding the rear corner of the block [ an ex. Le Mans GT40 motor ] back after the clutch explosion !
. . . my last trip down Nostalgia alley - I bought back Mick Cheley's old "Mr. Shifter" 27 T Altered and totally rebuilt it with 502ci Ford with 3 stage NOS and Glide.
Was that recently? I remember a few years ago the remains of it were on display at the Hot Rod or Nostalgia Drags at Shakey. If recent, it would be nice to see pics of it now.

I have a full photo-build scrap book up to the point I sold it with the 502 / Glide configuration. I know it has since gone through a couple of owners, and last I heard it was stripped back to a bare body / chassis. Don't know what became of the lump - but it WAS a good 'un. Had the Gleadow Bros ex. "Time Machine" heads, Victor Jnr with 3 stage NOS. ALL the good stuff inside and two week's worth of blueprinting / head porting !
Back in the 60's /70's I was seriously influenced by the '27T Altereds in the US and particularly Eddie Sigmon.
I unahamedly based my style and colourways on that car ! Candy Pink, with Candy Red Flames and flip flop overlay.
Just recovering from a major PC virus - as soon as I reinstall my graffix software, I'll flag up some pix.
Here's one I made earlier !
