I had a 427 in this, seen here in 1977 at the Chelsea cruise.
My mate Darren has two Shelby GT500's, '67 & '70. He thrashes them at the HRD's every year.

As I understand Mike, when that motor was pulled down after we sold it, it was a 406!

We've had a few 427's over the years... and Shelby's!
We had a Tunnel Port 427 in a 67 GT500 (it was the all blue one that used to race and now lives in France) the TP is in Kevin Highams Fairlane who also has a 'cammer in a 61 Starliner we imported from CA for him - from the Bill Harrah Collection no less!

I used to change tyres on an AC Frua [sp] that had a side oiler in it, & used to work with a bloke called John Greenslade that owned two Shelby Mustangs, a CC featured, GT350 called Super Snake & a black with Revolutions GT500, can't remember the year but it was the one with the full width rear lghts & pointed front end.

I'ld have been surprised Milton if you hadn't have had a FoMoCo 427 pass through your hands.

Some years ago the guys down at Freddie Clowns Trousers yard on the south side of the Blackwall tunnel reckoned that they had taken in a 65 or 66 Galaxie 4 door that had a 427 lump in it - they said that someone hard filled the block and used the engine for dragging.
There was also reputed to be a red 65' Galaxie XL ragtop around Romford or East London with 427 and 2 x 4's back in late 70's.

I'm surprised it's still here - its a very clean rust free car with nice XL interior and a strong running 390...

Are you sure that Kevin did not have more than one 'Cammer'. I seem to remember seeing two of them in Tony Grandsden's workshop.

Steve its a long story but when American Engine Specialsts in Salisbury went bust i had the chance to buy a Cammer that was in the workshop for very little money, I bought it with the intent to put it in my 32 3W but having spoke to a friend in the U.S. he explained i could sell it for quite a lot more, It had to go unfortunately :D
When i picked up my 2 engines there were at least 3 other side oiler 427's on engine stands freshly rebuilt in the workshop.

Didnt ACs at Teddington offer some 427s for sale once back in the 80s,apparently new in the crate? Or was it an urban legend?
I thought they were a parts dept. special which is why I'd love to know what it was in. pretty sure they were a racing piece only steve, i dont think anything had one out of the showroom ?
i had a 427 in the late 80s bought for the princely sum of £250.00 completely in bits needed a rebuild i sold it to a company building cobra replicas somewhere in the bury st edmunds areathey insisted on giving me a good 350 chevy a good 427 ford and a good 302 ford in exchange for it

Thanks Paul - I wasn't wrong then! I'll have a word with Dodsie about that - I never actually saw it myself someone told me about it when I had my '66 427 7LTR coupe - sais they saw it going to what was Dunballs engineering supplies in Brentwood Road (now Romford tools) PS how about posting some images of your ride?

Didn`t Ford fit the Cammer into some mid sixties cars (Galaxies or Fairlanes???), possibly read it in some Ford adds in HRM in the `60s, but not my kind of car so didn`t take to much notice of the details:(...

They did sell some complete cars in a tie up with Holman and Moody but they were aimed at racers rather than being conventional retail pieces.

Would have been interesting. i agree steve, think you had to order your cammer as a seperate thing from the racing dept, was once told the story of the cammer that langy had, i used to pop down to salisbury and buy bits for my old zodiac, was building a cleveland headed 302, used to pop down there on a saturday morning, get there when they opened, spend a load, then go home normally three or four hours later ! think the bloke i used to deal with was called dave, fraid the old brain cells arnt what they used to be, cant remember the ins and outs... once bought a cut out 351 windsor back from there in a standard mk2 cortina, that was a long trip home !

Ha! Exactly... Mind you Top Oiler 427's didn't have cross bolts.
A little know fact is that Canadian export RHD Galaxie's with 390's in were actually the 406/427 block casting with much thicker bottom end web castings!

Wasn't that a black one - Somewhere in my memory, I seem to recall that car belonged to Andy Harts (black 57 DLT5T)dad!
One of the first cars I 'sent' to Sweden was a '66 7 Litre convertible still with it's 428 and disc brakes.
I also had the ex Tony Pond (from Ipswich) among others London Motor Show '66 T-Bird convertible which is a 428 car, not fully restored in Denmark!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm - all the best stuff ends-up overseas - I guess its down to the fact that they 'value' these cars and are prepared to invest in them - unlike the UK - and here lies a tale for UK PLC in general!

I believe the 406 was primarily a '62 engine usually coupled with three two's.
The 62 Thunderird 'M' option was a 406 and a 427 in '63.
The 427 was a bored 406
I think this is right:
352 - 4" bore x 3.5" stroke
390 - 4.05 x 3.78"
406 - 4.13 x 3.78
410 - 4.05 x 3.98
427 - 4.23 x 3.78
428 - 4.13 x 3.98
332 is 4.00 x 3.30
Thats all from memory so could be nonsense...

BBC all the way.basic engine design superior.worked on and built all
of the main four manafacturers engines ,all have good points and bad some more than others ,all can be developoed to make good power but chevy just hit the nail on the head.there again it depends on what angle your coming from ,if you look at top fuel, alcohol motors ect, then the hemi would be the one, as ease of maintenance and dissasembly are optimum in that area.the main problem with ford was they dident stick with the same engine design in the sixtys, they changed to much year on year.. and to large and to many bolts per part.ie water pump comes to mind . i love em all ,just prefer CHEVY!
P.S That cammer does look real pretty though...

I have to agree with you re. BBC - even as a one time FoMoCo enthusiast. Having said that its only the fact that BBC's were manufactured for so many years and were so readily available that made that it so. I seem to rememeber one of the USA car mags doing a series on 'hop-ups' to big block engines from several makers a couple of years ago - they did the same things to each of them like aftermarket heads, cams with similar lifts/durations etc, inlets and headers - the result was that all of the engines seemed to post HP/Torque figures very close to each other - I guess the decider then is - no. 1 the cost - no. 2 reliability - 3 no. availability - 4. personal choice.
I'm going off thread here!

Two years ago I went to view a brand new house,no intention of buying it but just to look! Well I wanted to see the 3 car garage ,although it was locked I could see through the glass door that led from the hallway.Inside was a white 63 Thunderbolt Fairlane! I assume it was gennie as it had the bubble hood and all the race lettering on it including 427 C.I. on the fender. Never found out who's it was...yet
