Any London rodders remember when the McDonalds drive thru on the Old Kent Road opened in the late 80's / early 90's it had a red 50's Vette in the window? It was there for years. Times must have been good if they could afford that to sit there while kids threw their chips in it.

Anyone know whos it was, how it got there, where it is now etc?

The Corvette you are talking about is indeed the one in Surrey quays, it was an EX Luxury and Power car and I took the petrol tank and the running gear out before it was put in there back in the late 80's.

The car was still in the window last week as I too drove past....

Considering what a great car that was, it sure is an expensive piece of furnature

Just before that car was taken off the road, I did a 600 yard rolling burnout in it all the way through Catford High Street :D

Go from Greenwich to Canada water direction and there is a Maccy D's on the corner as you enter a one way bit. There is what looks to be a post 58 vette in there (always stupid o'clock in the morning when I pass).

John it was the first drive through McDonald's in this country and it was in Deptford (not the Old Kent rd) just before New Cross, been in there many a time. It was a great accolade for employee's to be allowed to work in "the first drive through" in this country! Hahaha. I hear you can get a diploma know from serving burgers!!!!! whats all that about???

I remember driving up there for the opening in my Consul. Having spent all morning cleaning the car, we got very close & stopped at a traffic light & out pops a windscreen cleaner (you know, the ones that ambush you!). [:(!]

I'm yelling at them to stop, my wife winds down the window & yells, finally they realise that we don't want them to clean the screen & reluctantly wipe the foam off! This, in a time when they actually spoke English as a first language!!

Anyway, yes the Vette is still there, like all these cars, stripped of grubby bits for reasons of H & S.

Incidentally, if you cruised the Brighton Road in South Croydon past the old Dees Ford showroom, you might have seen my Consul in their showroom. I used to store it there during the winter & they'd occasionally put it in the front. Swung the deal as it had an original old vacuum tax disc holder from them when they were known as Hubert Dees Ford! Prior to that, Mark Tanner had his A pickup in there.
