When you build a 32 roadster or whatever on a Scimitar chassis using a new body etc at what stage do you have to apply to keep the Scimitar registration? Many thanks in advance.

For hands on experience contact Rodbuilder on here as he's done a few. Essentially they will visit when you apply for a body change. At that stage it needs to look like a car NOT a body in one corner and an unstripped Scimitar in the other.

Sid, the registration ( as in V5C ) is in 'danger' if they inspect and disagree over the cars identity. However it is perfectly legal to rebody onto any chassied vehicle (providing you don't modify the chassis ) providing it still retains enough points under the DVLA reg system.

Yes and No Terry . A body that sits on a chassis carries no points in the scheme of things and therefore a secondhand steel body SHOULD be fine.

Where this falls over is they always ask for a receipt for the NEW body .

This is a misinterpretation of their own rules as they are mixing up a 'body on a chassis' and a new 'monococque body' (which DOES require a receipt).

No one yet has been prepared to go head to head with them to prove they are misinterpreting their own rules at branch level.

They will accept a home made body with receipts for materials

I have put down the procedure in the technical section for future reference.
