before mine would always have been some v8 or another,
more recently iv become interested in anything a bit "different", straight 6's and 8's in particular

ed (10mpg) came round a while ago in an ole Riley racing car he'd re-built for the owner and i fell in love with it, i wont post any pics of the car but have one of the engine.....

409, but I couldn't afford that, so a 348 with tri power.

427 Cammer would be nice tho..

A nicely dressed Flattie (no surprise there then), with the usual internal mods and dual 2 barrel carbs, or a sweet little dressed 4 banger motor. I like the challenge of extracting power? from the older motors.
I rather like the `tough` look a Nailhead has when equiped with dual 4 s too...

Early Caddy, Nailhead, early Olds, Hemi (All varieties inc Daimler), 427 Cammer, Flatty, Offy 4 pot, .....anything so long as its NOT a small block and not mainstream.

Oh and any kind of highly stressed smokey multi cylinder 2 stroke :-) like a triple....Oh the smell of 2 stroke in the morning hmmm

235 chevy six, fenton exhausts, twin carters on a finned offie manifold.
maybe a 292 six with the same treatment
also quite fond of pre0crossflow 1500cc motors, revvy as all get out and relaible too

Even though I am currently having an affair with a big block chevy other favourite engines include 385 series BBF's (especially 429 SCJ's) flathead Caddies ('cos they are so mechanically quiet & develop max torque at about 1800 rpm) flathead Fords I guess too ('cos hot ones sound like nothing else) oddly AMC V8's ('cos they can be resonably economic) small block Fords ('cos pro-rata good money spent on them gets you further forward than most other engines) Daimler Hemi ('cos its 'our' home grown V8) Oh cobblers - any V8 except some of those crap sounding flat crank V8's!

At considerable risk of being predictable.... My favourite engine would be a 26B out of a 787B Le-Mans 24hr car. No mods needed. :)

Anything that has more go than the Canadian Essex V6 in my truck:mad:

But seriously, (and I know this may go against the grain or won't appeal but...) if I ever get to build a 'rod I'd consider a turbo'd four pot. Namely a VW 1.8 one. Easy to build, strong, cheap and plentiful tuning parts and good power for the cc's without dipping into single figure economy so everyday usable. I'd love to see this used.

I love my L71 Chevy motor just the way the factory produced it.:)
The early hemi in my 34 always puts a big smile on my face but would love to give it a tidy up and a few 'HotHeads' items of choice as well. Would keep the valve covers though...:D

Blown Chrysler Hemi

Shedster
25-02-09, 09:03 PM
The earlier the better, but any engine made before about '69 gets my vote - car, bike, tractor, stationary whatever. Too many to have a favourite, but I wouldn't mind this in the front of the Shedster...

60 degree V12, just over ten litres, seven roller bearing crank, around 300bhp, and 143 mph - all of it waay back in 1924... Yikes!
