would a caravan chassis make a good trailer to put your rod on as purpose built trailer look so much money?

Definitely not without a lot of work .....it would be easier to start from scratch....2 wheel car trailers are an f'ing nightmare , another reason to avoid the caravan....
The parts aren't as dear as you would think .....or good old ebay !!
Heres an Al-Ko caravan chassis I made into a trailer, so far its carried a 51 Chevy suburban.2 Nomads (one from Southampton) 35 coupe, land rover, jeep .you get the idea......Its well up to the job
important to check the suspension units are rated to carry the weight of a car. The chassis can be used but as has been said they need to be built up and braced.

Also check the coupling weight limit. By the time the trailers built it could be around 500kgs unladen. Add 1500kgs+ of car & your going to be over the coupling max weight.
Must say, that trailer based on a twin axle Alko chassis looks very smart!
It helps the fact that until Xmas I worked for Al-Ko (then they shut the factory down ,still, plenty of time in the garage now)
