hello all .. i have just got me a new project ,its a 54 chevy pickup .now im a bike man .. and this is my first pickup ever . i have always wanted one and i love it ,,,but its all standard strait 6 and original suspention and all that stuff. i have some funds put aside for a new engine ect ,,,if you could ,what would it have to have ie .sbc , mustang 2 clip ect ..i understand alot is personal choice but im overwhelmed with options and might make a complete gaff like buying a jet engine or some cack ....help ..just a list of must haves would be great

Just drive it and enjoy it a while. You'll get to know it that way, and it'll tell you if it wants anything eventually. :)

Here, here Mr. Shedster........nothing wrong with a straight six, spend the money on getting it on the road and enjoy it, if you don't like something - change it and enjoy the learning experience.

thanks .. i have driven it to work and all about now for 3 days and 4 tanks of gas ,i have rebuilt the diff and rebuilt the carb , i have enjoyed bouncing around and having a turning circle of the cutty sark and i listened and it spoke to me when some toss pot in a passat pulled out unexpectedly it said " kill me and install new stuff "

Depending where you are located, get down to Wheels Day on Good Friday if you can. Apart from there almost certainly being a good variety of trucks there to pick ideas from - style, ride height, rolling stock, etc. - 'Hot Rods and Choppers' usually have a stand there, and you can talk to them to see what's involved in adding a new front end, etc.
