To those going to the French Nats

Just been doing my checks for Le Mans this year and thought I'd put this one up for anyone who was unaware of the rule change...

REFLECTIVE JACKETS & WARNING TRIANGLES IN FRANCE (30 September)

The French Road Safety Department has confirmed that:

From 1st October 2008 all drivers in France, including drivers of vehicles registered outside of France, must have one warning triangle and one reflective jacket in their vehicle.

This regulation, which we understand does not apply to two and three wheeled vehicles, will be enforced with on-the-spot fines of between €90 and €135.




The Hi-Viz jacket must be accessible inside the vehicle (Not in the boot or in a trailer) and you must be able to show the police that you have it, if you're pulled over.

In the event of a breakdown or accident you cannot leave the car without putting on the vest,

We've always had this equipment in our vehicles for the Euronats trips for several years now, but was not aware that you had to have the jackets inside the car though. Probably explains why you see so many phantom passengers (& drivers) in truck cabs, Hi-Viz jackets hung over the seats.

Yup, it appears that a lot of truck drivers do it to save the hassle of being pulled over and checked. If Les Flics can see the jacket they don't pull ya over...

1960 ZODY,many thanks for that bit of ,may i say,very helpfull info,as Maurice said,we who go to the euro nats(but not this year) did'nt even know that,(Maurice,remind me will Ya !) and Roofer,the more the merrier,i seem to have lost the posting i first put about the event,but if you look on here i'm sure you'll find it.Once again Zody Ta !

i thought you now have to have a hi vis for ALL the occupants of the car in France, i may be wrong but thats what i was told last time i went over

The rule states that you cannot leave the car without the High-Vis.
It doesn't actually say that everyone has to have an HV.

But the sensible way of doing things wouyld be to have one for everyone just in case.
It's not as if they are expensive.

John, don't forget to carry your hi-viz jackets in the car with you & not in the boot.
