View Full Version : can wew do the cortina/granada = zephyr/mk2 cortina bearing size - numbers
i shall start with the inner bigger bearing from a granada mk 2 spindle
bearing number
L 45449

don't know why it lists a metriv bearing there
-what is the smaller outer bearing inner dimension
ah it is a metric bearing - no its not, its just nearly 2 inch = 50.25mm
-so does that make the outers 18mm?

mustang 2 and chevy camera front outer bearing
i suspect jag too.
Granada L45449-L45410 & LM11749-LM11710
(29x50.292x14.224 & 17.462x39.878x13.843)
Cortina L44649-L44610 & LM11749-LM11710
(26.987x50.292x14.224 & as above)
MK2 Zephyr 1997X-1922 & LM11949-LM11910
(26.988x57.150x19.845 & 19.050x45.237x15.494)
MK2 Cortina 1988-1922 & LM11949-LM11910)
(28.575x57.150x19.845 & see above)
(All are inch bearings with +0.013/-0 tol on bore and +0.025/-0 tol on OD)
need bearings to go from franada to chevy
17 to 45
and 28 to 62
RIGHT, i AM THINKING THAT
-MUSTANG 2 SPINDLES USE THE SAME SPINDLE BEARING SIZE AS JAGUAR
what is the spindle size for jaguar
as you could then fathom out the spindle spacers to got from granada to jaguar, then use them when fitting either a mustang 2 stock rotor/hub - 11inch us granada-monarch rotor/hub, or in fact the chevy astrovan - 80's camero - maybe even the later split hub disc stuff
-programme the cnc machine, spin a bucketful up - et wholar

This is of some interest to me,if i have understood it right, you can put the whole inner bearing from a Cortina hub into a Granada hub and the Granada hub will fit onto a Cortina spindle.giving instant 4 to 5 stud conversion, right ?
THAT SEEMS CORRECT BUT....
it isn't a question of that, its all about the wheels centres in relation to the hub face
-the off-set or 'et'
most 3.5 and 4.5j and even 5j aftermarket wheels have a zero et
-now ponder this, if a granada hub has an 'et' of 40mm
-i.e. its hub face is 40mm *parp*he outboard, than the zero et wheel you wish to use, although the steering will seem light, as you are using a skinny tyre, the contact patch is in the wrong place - 40mm *parp*her out board
the roll centre is 40mm out
-the scrub is wrong
in effect, you the are over stressing the bearings
-plus, if you then choose to fit a wheel with a further 'dish', with the wrong et - you then amplify the error.
-the only way I can see that you can fit a aftermarket 3.5 or 4.5 zero offset wheel to a granada makr 2 spindle is to use a rotor/hub from a chevy, these are positive et at about 6mm - close, but still not correct
-the discs are 10.5 inches - easy to then fit a single piston caliper to.
you cannot fit a twin piston caliper to them - i.e. the stock grannyone, as the outside piston would sit hwere the wheel facve wants to be
some bearing spacers are required, to go from granada to chevy - or jag - or mustang 2
-the spacers would still work with mustang 2 rotors or hubs, as the bearing are available
-there are no bearings to go from cortina or granny - direct to jag/chevy/ford -us
it would be easy to fit a suitable caliper, as the carriers are normally a flat bar, that would pass over the caliper/spindles lugs
-stock granny caliper bolt spacings are 3.1/4 inches apart - 82.66?mm
-there are calieprs - floating, that have this placement - athough they bolt from the other side i think, as they are used on struts - a simpl spot facing, the drill out the threads would be in order
Bearings would fit but as mentioned it depends on bearing spacing. Hub would slot on but not neccessarily with flange in the right place. May even be too wide for the Cortina stub to fit the outer bearing correctly.
For other question,
LM67043-LM67014 gives 28.575x61.986x15.875
05068-05175 gives 17.462x44.450x15.494
closest I could find,
With any swaps you need to be careful of shaft/housing radius etc and bearing loadline as mentioned by Nobler
cheeby inner od is 59.10
inner wants to be 28.91
inner outer is 45.22
- spindle is17.31
cheeby inner od is 59.10

spcers needed are
28.91 - to 35.00
and
17.30 to21.79
both about 20mm wide
big one needs a internal taper
outer needs rolling over

Interesting thread,i guess it is still best to get a hold of what you intend to try and fit, and together with the info on this thread you stand a good chance of working it out.
Re Cortina Granada hub swap ,the only measurement i could get hold of ,was the wheel mounting face to the brake disc ,which was the same, but as you say 'bignod', bearing position has to be conidered.
Ps ,sorry to have kind of crashed into your thread 'Nobler' ,where you are trying to get to a US 5 stud patern.:)
