Reminds me a little of the old "World's Fastest Street Rod" shoot-outs in the '80s - Jerry Moreland's Ford and that gold Chevy Sedan from Texas.

Was this in Sm or CC "Garage Scene" a few years back???
37chevy
02-07-09, 01:48 PM
Yes it was in a garage scene in Custom Car a few years back and it certainly has not been as easy as it looks, Car is back in body shop due to the filler in the roof bubbling up so stripped the hole roof and done it again but paint has sunk and they need to do it again, seems car is fighting me because it doesn't want to be finished.

i like that alot:cool:
good work
37chevy
02-07-09, 05:09 PM
Where getting there got to have a build up and leave some suspense?????????
Scottie You first of all make a buck out of wood and surround that with cardboard to make some sides to hold the soft polymer which makes your reverse mould, I then cut a prismatic diffuser from a 600x600 light fitting that goes into false ceilings and shaped it to the same shape as my required light and placed it in the polymor mould with the bumps or prisms sticky upwards this will give you the effect of a production light with prisms and if your lucky it wont stick to your lense when you poor it.
Now make up some poly resin (I can get the details for you if your interested of the actual one I used) and add a red die you only need a drop and mix it up, when pooring keep it consistant as you will push air into the mould if you are not careful, just fill to the thickness required and allow to go hard.
One little tip is when you make the buck make a base bigger than your lenses because in the reverse this acts as your ledge to glue the lenses into the body. And wax it so the material doesn't stick.
Sorry if I am preaching to the converted but this is very easy to mess up?

Rear Parcel shelf is made on 4mm ply with 6mm dense foam and the number and flames cut out of 3mm foam and then the leather is steamed onto the foam with contact cement.
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt35/37chevy07/trim12-1.jpg
Kick panels are made in exactly the same way
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt35/37chevy07/trim9-1.jpg
door cards are again made on 4mm ply and the dense foam which is quite hard is marked up and grooves made approximatley 5mm wide and slightly "V" them when cutting and you must make sure the lines are dead straight, again apply a good quality glue which will allow you some relief if you happen to put it on wrong because the last thing you want is to pull the foam off ? Like before Steam the Leather and starting at one end feed the leather into the grooves you have made making sure the leather is firmly into each groove before proceeding to the next, and there you have it a card that looks like tuck and role but I think alot more modern feel especially when you introduce the accent piece.

One of the other things I embarked on was to make my own LED lights well after a lot of web searching I found the ones I needed and took myself of to Maplins to buy the circuit boards, you buy them obviously bigger than what you want and cut them up and shape them to fit the lense. Question then was the way I was to wire them up and after blowing a few up I eventually found a site on the web that told me how to calculate the voltages and what resistors I needed to use, so I then went about putting them into circuits of six and then placing a resistor in to take up the voltage to just over 12V. and there you have it SIMPLE?
One thing I had to do is workout how to switch them so again went to Maplins and bought two 12V relays DIN mounted and with the help of a fellow rodder (Yes its you MR Homans) went about working out how to wire it and bingo brake and the indicator works on the side you are going to turn leaving the brake light in operative on that side. EXCELLENT even you could do this Langy.

Russel I hated it mate but had to be done because if I had just treated the area infected it could have come up somewhere else??
Cant believe it but I find myself taking the laquer and top coat off again after it was noticed that the primers vapour is pushing through the top coat and laquer and making it look dull, the laquer has also been mixed wrong so I am told by the suppliers and stayed very soft albeit I believe that is a stock answer when you querie it.
Been there all day today stripping the top coat and spoke to the painter who now admits he put to much Laquer on the car and that is why its gone milky. Never mind that is all I wanted is some honesty and in my opinion it is big of him to admit it! onwards and upwards I just want it done now.

the car car i now looking superb, credit for you for that, its real nice to see it has survived !
it wa covered in some kind of bitumen paint!
i think a guy on here gary janes had a connection with the afore mentioned company ,perhaps he could remember, as there cant be more rhd chevy 37 about

I bought this from a guy in Telford and yes it was in black bitumen but when I bought it all I got was the bodyshell with no running gear or engine, steering, seats and rear wings all gone, one piece of glass for each sized window, no front glass but the rear screen, and the front wings but in a bad way took alot of time to repair them. The floor had been cut out and the fire wall so all that new, and I got the bonnets and front grill shell but they were all in a bad way with pitting and damage.
Spent two years collecting parts including the door hinges which had also been sold?
I would appreciate any pictures you have of the car and any history of where you bought it and so on my email address is tom.tidey@ntlworld.com
