In my quest to get the Ditch Finder General (DFG) stance to my liking I have collected a plethora of coil springs so, armed with Mr Sayers spring compressor I decided to go about getting it sorted once and for all.

This is where I started.

Looks fine but the crossmember banged the tarmac more often than the headboard at the local bordello on payday.

The reason for this was a combination of 2" dropped spindles on the Camaro subframe and a set of 6cylinder springs.

Looked great but the council were looking for the person that kept pulling the cats eyes out of the road....

So. First set of springs. Heavy duty Camaro, standard ride height.

ARGHHHHHHH, my eyes! ****** thing looked like a gasser with about 3" clearance between the top of the wheel and arch. Looked so bad I could not bring myself to take a picture. Needless to say loads of ground clearance, probably about 6" but could not be bothered to measure it.

Second set. 2" lowered uprated springs (thanks Frank!)

I knew that these were not going to be much use but as I could now change the springs in under an hour why not give them a try!

Asthetically pleasing but, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. The crossmember was touching the tarmac without even my mince pie laden frame sitting in the cab.

Looked good but not practical in terms of the cats eye protection league...

So, What to do?

Ah Ha! Out with the trusty grinder and remove half a coil... Oh bollox to that, take a whole one off and stop being a poof.

So here we are with the heavy duty springs with a coil whacked and the 2" dropped spindle. What do you think?

I now have about 3 1/2" at the crossmember, the hard spring has helped and I only get crossmember to tarmac contact on very extreme bumps. So I am a happy camper.

Next job is to put the moon disks back on, clean the white walls and sort out the door mirrors!

The DFG is now mobile, and no I will not help you move house...

Steve,

It is a bit bouncy but compaired to what I had to endure before it is not bad.

I have adjustable Koni's front and back so will fine tune the ride over the next few weeks now that I can drive the DFG without clenching my buttocks at the sight of a slight undulation in the road...

Next upgrade will be some poly bushes for the front suspension and a rear anti roll bar.

If anyone knows of a Camaro rear anti roll bar going cheap please let me know.

Tony, yup the Pumpkin is still safely tucked up in my garage, fingers crossed that this year will be a financially more rewarding than the past few and it can stay there!
