back end of last year i bought a 1967 pontiac GTO, it's an old racecar and ran under the name of 'The Warrior', i will be putting this car back together in it's old racing form, i do have one picture of it being raced at the pod, but not much else so i'm after any info on the car and or pictures of it, these will help me put it back together as it was. here are a few pics of the car as it is now.
hope you can help.

Dont have any photos but remember it well and the guy who piloted it.
It used to get air under one wheel as it launched. The guy was so big we always said if he went on a diet it would of been like he had spent £20k or more performance parts ;o).
Great car and was real entertainment, one of my favourites from when we used to go to the Pod!

I don't know what the car is you have but I am confident it is not the Warrior, the reason is I painted the Warrior Black, made and fitted fibreglass bumpers, all in a lock-up in Addlestone. Of course, it could have been put back to original colour, but the bumpers went to a scrap yard. I did a deal for it with George Johnson, I gave him a D150 Dodge pickup for it around 27 years ago. You are right about one thing had George got someone else to drive it, it probably would have gone two seconds quicker, LOL. George and his car were very popular, it was amazing how the car launched so well, not so incredible these days, but way back then!!!!!. The sad thing is I have no photographs of the car at all, I don't have any of the cars that I owned back then. I can't remember who I sold it to, but I remember the reason why, to pay for my honeymoon, oh well we all make mistakes.

If it is the Warrior, good luck with the build, would be great to see it run again, I wonder if George and his brother are still around? They lived over High Wycombe way. It used to make me smile when they turned up and got out of the car, first one side would go up 4 inches, then when the other got out, that side would go up level. They guy I sold it to must have resprayed it, he has also changed the graphics on the rear panel, I kept the original quote as I was painting the car black there was no need to repaint it. I wonder where that delightful scoop came from too. Keep the pictures of the build coming.

There was none of that rear 'chassis' or roll cage back then either. It was all stock eccept for a stonking 400ci motor Manual shifting turbo 400 and some wheels.

Steve, were/are you from Wokingham? I remembered the Warrior being painted black, and although the old memory cells have a few holes, I think my mate Andy bought his green '65 GTO off a Steve from down there who had the Warrior at some time? Would have been '84-ish, in the heyday of Gary's Picnics, RWYB at the Pod, Doorslammers et al.

Hi Rem, you are close but no cigar!!!!, back then I lived in Byfleet, had a lockup in Addlestone, but I have always lived around the Woking 'area'. The green 65 had a glass flip front? I first knew that car when it was owned by a bloke called John Childs from West Byfleet, a died in the wool Poncho man, he sold it to a guy in Hook (Surbiton) called Paul, he took off the Tri-Power that ended up on my Pa Cresta. Paul sold that to Mark Landsberg (car Killer), It was then bought by my mate Doug Knowlson, Doug took it from a stocker to the Green car your mate bought, he did a very good job on it, painted it himself, made the glass front, but I don't know who he sold it to, so there is a little history lesson. Regards the Warrior, thanks for posting that, I know I painted it Black, the trouble with this car for me is, the paint looks too old, possibly original, and all that extra metal in the rear, the chassis work, I have never seen the Warrior like that, but hey that doesn't mean it isn't the Warrior.

Thanks Steve - I always mix up Woking and Wokingham. :) Yes, it had the green flip front when Andy bought it. He spent the first month smoking it out everywhere he could around here! Shame it ended up as just a shell of itself as the pale blue tube-framed car, but that's how things were 'progressing' back then - I'm sure many a nice muscle car or hot rod was tubbed out and tube-framed in the quest for speed. I seem to remember you had a few nice cars back then - Chevelles, etc.?

PS Sorry Danny for the wandering off topic.

Looking good then Danny, a piece of British Rodding folklore, keep us updated on the rebuild. Would be great if someone comes up with pictures of it when it was black.

Hi Rustycoupe, i have the original bonnet and that appears to be black, with a small cut out which looks like a 'shaker scoop'.
i have been given the number of someone who knows the car very well and who has a lot of pictures of it, and more history about the car. As soon as i have more pics i will update this thread.
p.s. moderators if you want to move this to members rides and projects then please feel free to do so.

Hopefully it's the same one Rustycoupe was talking about!
