Morning all had to use my pop thismornin as my dailys playing up , & took the opertunity to set up the holley as per the the previous thread ,
As others found it sits nicely with idle screws oout 1 turn , or just under & flaot level has been changed to match .
Ive got the tickover when warm down to 900rpm ,or 800 with heater on.
its not a big issue but i would like to beat this problem as this sort of thing niggles at me.
any other sudjestions ?

Timing will also speed up or slow down tickover, make sure it's spot on ( with timing light and vacuum disconnected ) and also check all vacuum lines, ,servo , pcv, vac advance to ensure no leaks.

So, high idle and running rich? Air leak springs to mind here. Check the gasket?

Have you tried pressing the butterflies closed by hand to see if anything is just wedging either of them open a touch?

Or maybe the choke mechanism is maladjusted, holding the butterfly open??

High idle cam adjusted wrong?

And do you have an electric fuel pump? What pressure is it running?

If it is electric have you watched the carb when the motor is stopped but the fuel pump is running? Do you see fuel overflowing inside the carb? My edelbrock was doing that fresh out of the box, leaking valve. Result: high idle, misfire, hard starting and black plugs.

Have you removed the idle screws to see if they are damaged, wrong, or just dirty? I once had a motorbike that some clown had fitted too long a spring to the idle screw, meaning the instruction 'gently nip down, then back out 1 1/2 turns' never did work. It idled high, it ran a black plug, and the exhaust glowed red. (might not apply to a Holley, years since I used one)

You've probably checked all the above, but just in case......;)

And do you have a PCV valve fitted? Rocker cover ventilation system? That can cause high idle if it allows too much air/fumes through to the carb base.

Fast idle cam should be visible somewhere on the exterior of the carb, when you pull the choke it should open the butterflies a bit, so just have a good nose around.

Spray a bit of carb cleaner on suspect area's Tony.
