Suitable car for a beginner

What would be a suitable car for a complete noob? I need suggestions for a cheap car (no more than £3000) with 50s styling, possibly a half finished restoration, that a person with no previous experience could maintain.
Alternatively i have thought about using a fibreglass kit and donor chassis but need more info on this as it sounds compicated. Does anyone import fibreglass American bodyshells like the 49 Merc, and what sort of price would they be? I have also looked at Bay Area Rods. Has anyone used thier products?

good shout there Alan.........would reckon that trying to get a complete finished car as a "noob" would be better, IMO of course.

100e..105e...morris minor...PA Cresta (if your lucky), as has been said Conusl.Zephyr/Zodiac..the MkIII is good value and has real nice fins...and a massive engine bay!!..£3000 is not gona get you a merc even a glass one!!
if your a Noob with limited knowledge then go find some rodders in your area and hook up with them..you should be able to find them on here or R+S...or really oddly the HAMB..
Buy a running car with a ticket and keep it on the road whlie you mod it...it will keep your interest going and stop yet another "project" ending up on ebay. There is nowt more depressing than wanting to go play in your car and it's in loads of bits and needs another 6 months work on it...

you will be amazed what is for sale outside the rodding world

and don't buy the first car you see just because its in front of you.. Trust me I have done this!..
if you don't know enough about rods/customs/old cars etc take someone with you who does...it will save you a bunch of cash and agro..trust me I have have ignored this! ....
also buy the best car you can afford, buying a cheap shed may seem great but you will spend time and money just keeping it from falling apart ..yep been there too!
Take advice from those who know...see hooking up with other rodders for that!!

im 19 and my mk2 consul was/ is my first ride, great british car with a slight american look to it. payed £1000 for mine and it was completly solid in and out except for the usual points. anyway good luck !
