Got as friend needing to know what grade/type oil to put in his 1 1/2 SU,S on his jag motor. Anyone know?

If find that the best of all is Citroen LHM (also used in Rolls Royces) - better even than the special dashpot oil Burlens sell. Buy a litre for £5.99 and it'll last forever. You can also mix oils to get exactly the viscosity you want.

x2 yes, well worth doing.

Thicker oil equals a greater accelerator pump effect on SU carbs, in complete contradiction of the opinion of many "experts".

Slows the rise of the piston - so richer for longer.

It's richer because the piston rises slower than the aidemand would dictate, this means more depression due to increased velocity, therefore more fuel pulled through the jet

I always used 3 in 1 when I ran SU's
it's quite thin.
