Hi All,

I am looking for a gasket set for the SBC '86 305 Camaro engine (iirc).

I also need a set of HT/LT leads so I can look at routing and positioning the coil. So don't need to be brilliant.

Cheers,

Stu.

If you want a full set and it's a normal build go for a stock set like Mr Gasket, trick flow etc. If your engine is hopped up use Fel Pro Permatorque head gaskets. There is also a RACE gasket set which means Remainder to Assemble a Complete Engine and has all the other gaskets not normally found in other kits. If your missing the odd one I have loads of spares here so dont but another kit if you muller one.

Also you should get 2 front sump gasket seals (they are about 1/4 circle). A thick & thin one, trial fit these to make sure you use the correct one with your sump. As a very very loose guide steel sumps use the thick one and ally sumps the thin but it really depends on your engine.

As for leads get a set of make your own, run them where you want and fix the end as per instructions. There is a proper tool for the job which places the lead in a fixture and you run a blade round the insulation not cutting the core inside then you flip it and use it to crush the fitting. More than worth its cost. It's an MSD composite plastic part not the 2 piece metal accel part.

Adam,

Thanks for the info, my problem is I can't find anyone that stocks or sells a gasket set for a '86 305, most finish at '84 and start again at around '91/2, so I'm not sure if buying the '84 would be the right one or not. I am having the same problems with the leads, what size would I need and where do I get them from. (If you haven't guessed this is my first SBC build)

Cheers,

Stu.

The gasket kits are pretty generic till you hit 86/87 when Chevy went to the centre bolt valve covers so that could be the reason the kits are stopping there then in 90/91 they went to one piece rear seals. But generally everything should be the same right from 55 up to 90 apart from those few changes. If your kit has side hole valve covers I have a couple of reusable centre bolt valve cover gaskets here. This is the cheapest kit I could find putting in your engine size and year.
