Some of the Rugby Mopar guy's are starting a meet at the Waterman pub at Hatton just off the A46 on the same day as the LI Diner. This will start after the Diner meet so breakfast at the Diner then a cruise over to the Waterman for a drink after.
.
great turn out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is feburary so whats the spring summer meets gonna be like??
woodie
it was ****ing rammed.....lots of new cars and faces too...someone said there was sumat like 60 cars there today....61 if you include the police car that turned up to get swamp and his mate to move off the front of the old bags house!!!.....what the feck is it gone be like in June???
It's going to be too busy!
Turned up & thought I may have to go - I carn't get my car up on the grass/verge, almost didn't find anyware to park.
The woman at the house on the left not going to get any more car friendly either.
Next thing you know the old bill will start to hassle us.
We need a bigger cafe, Ian reckons the old Little chef out past warwick maybe a good place?
Splendid number of cars today - more than three times what we got this time last year (and last year was good!). Need a bigger car park and quicker coffee service for sure.

That was indead silly. We have, without a doubt outgrown that venue.
We visited the old little Chef on the A46 Warwick by-pass on the way home. It's now under private management, and called the "Auto Grill". It has pros and cons as a venue. the 25+ parking spaces carpark is due to be expanded into a much larger area. It has plenty of inside seating. Petrol station on site. The guy running it is actively looking for clubs to use it as a venue, and when asked "what time do you open on a sunday?" replied "When would you like us to?".
The downsides of the place are it's slightly more pricey, may not be in the right area for those from the Rugby & Banbury directions, and most importantly, it's on the dual carriageway - meaning sometimes it's a pig to get out from due to fast traffic.
Could someone else go there and take a look?
I'll check it out, may be the manager may give us a deal on the day for people in "Hot rods " ?
The " when would you like us to ", ( open the doors ) response sounds very promising !
I don't think it's a issue for the Banbury people ?
What do others think of the idea?
we'll pop in today (oh the joys of only working 4 days a week!!!) perhaps we should have a sunday morning do there mid month just to try it??
OK been for a coffee (and Su had a Hot Chocky!)
carpark is much bigger and there's a big concrete area that's blocked off at the moment (the blocks are due to be moved sometime next week) the additional area is close to the same size as the LI Diner car park. The Diner it's self is bigger than LI and has built in "booths" as well as tables. Yeah it's more expensive but tea and coffee get free re-fills....The location is towards the M40 island just passed the Warwick turn, it's duel carrageway all the way and a lot closer to Shakey than our current location (it would be rammed for the Hot Rod drags)
Spoke to the woman who runs it (Ian spoke to her husband) and they would be very happy for us to use their diner. I mentioned the fact the LI people really havn't done much to for us and she said "what would you like us to do". She asked if we would all show up together , how long we would be there and if we're gona go please tell them and they will lay on staff etc Very positive.
I have her phone number (i'll pm it to Tim and Gary) worth you guys popping over or giving them a ring.
I'll be up for a mid month fact finding mission if any one else whats to come along!
All sounds good to me !
I drive past it every week, good sized venue, looks as the exit could be fun too !
Ooops smokey smokey ! sorry osiffer.
All we need then is a date to pencil in.
Sunday Feb 17 th ?
I'm up for that one Kev......anyone else??

yes !!
I will be there, any plans to arrive en masse?
I take it that this is just a look to see if the A46 Diner is viable and not to set up something in stone. As I do like the diner for its atmosphere mostly brought on by the chaotic parking, I think it does add something to our month meets.

The Li Diner was ok at the start, but the meet has grown too big. The Auto Grill on the A46 sounds good and is just down the road from the Waterman Pub in Hatton for afternoon drinks. A few of the local Mopar guy's are ok for the 17th to see what it's like.
.
Yes me too, & for clarity we should start calling the meet 'The Butty Run ',
How about at some point arrange a RWYB after a meet?,you could have a handicap system & have a casual race amongst our self's.
The slowest would get the 'Driving Miss daisy award' !
It would also clear the air of bull s h i t

I noticed two police camera vans on the A46 either side of the auto grill at 10:00 this morning.
Are they practicing for next weekend or have they got the dates mixed up.

well team ???
Spoken to one of the owners (Louise) and told her to expect us on Sunday 17th at around the usual 10:30ish time. I think we need to approach this with a plan - maybe pick a representative or two to do the talking. Louise seems very helpful and willing to go out of her way to cater for us, so let's try and impress them with as many cars as possible and see what kind of a deal we can strike - i.e. a discounted rodders beakfast, maybe a free meal for the chef's pick or longest jouney, etc.
If the VWs are going to be a bit thin on the ground this weekend then we'll be needing more hot rods.

Paul,
If im coming from M40 Island how far up A46 do I have to go before I can turn round ??
or is it better to go into Warwick ? and get onto it (A46) that way ?

If its the place I'm thinking - old Little chef place - then it would be easy for you to go upto the 1st warwick turn-off and come back down, reakon that would be easier than getting thro' warwick for the cape junction
just had a thought.......what about the flyers that have been made and distributed - I have put one on our info board at work,as has Leamington GSF.How would you go about informing eveyone as I can see the LI Diner perhaps being unco-operative due to the loss in sales each month
like I said - just a thou
Yeah, been thinking about that. Reckon we need at least one more at the old venue just to get the message across. I'll do some new ones and hand them out there. Also plaster the news across the various forums and on the butty run site. Assuming we decide to move of course.....
Maybe delegate someone to nip into the old place on the next couple of occassions?
I'm worried that folk won't realise that the next one is a week later than usual so that it doesn't clash with the NSRA swap meet.....
Gary ( he printed the flyers) is happy to re- do them, we need to call the meeting "The Butty Run" so as to avoid this in future.
We can soon get the new one's out.
I'll post on all the vw sites I go on,which Paul will too - I can also tell all who come in the shop and get Leam GSF to put a new one up
I think we all need to see this place before any decisions can be made about reprinting flyers etc.
please bare in mind that we will get no "passing trade" of non believers as we do at the diner as most passing vehicles will be doing 70+ and the A46 diner is obstructed by foliage.
is the Auto Grill diner a owner/manager or a chain?
woodie
I get the impression it's independent....and lets see how good it is before we pizz of the LI diner.
dispite it's shortcomings I do still like the diner.....perhaps we could do sumat between them if the new place is any good?
Woodie, I couldn't agree more. Comments about passing trade going at 70mph are well said. There may be some real issues about pulling out for a cruise onto a busy dual carriageway too. And even if we really like the place I think we need to look at others too before any decision is made.

have any other venues been suggested - A45 willoughby....... BP truckstop A5 Rugby..........jackshill cafe towcester..............

Why don't we have two meets?
In the summer we all want to use the cars more and once a month is not really enough.
Come winter time we can decide if we want to knock one of them on the head.
Basically survival of the fittest (fattest?), we keep the meet that is most popular for next year.
Who's for a double butty run?
Mid month and first(ish) Sunday.
The mid month could be organised to complement other things such as Shakey.
Any suggestions for dates?
68racer
I like your thinking....................food for thought.
I like the idea of 2 breakies a month a month too,but the show calender gets really busy between May - September, and I'm including rod shows,vw shows, classic car shows etc etc - let alone DIY round the house!!......
sometimes,too often is too much
yeah but think of the lard!!

Nice Cafe at Avon Beach Mudeford !
Reliability run anyone ???? :D :D
Well, Guys, I only suggested this place as a possibillity. Lets go check it out and see what happens. It does have its drawbacks. Personaly I'd like to avoid Mcdougals and Franky & bernie type places, but i'm open to other suggestions.
HEY Paul - you meeting me round my place on the way?
I still like the LI diner, if only they would buy out the house next door!
What we have going at the Long Itch diner is pretty good. But *maybe* it could be better if the venue was a little bit bigger. Last month we had some parking problems and the queue for food and drink was disappointing. So it's wise to look at moving the event, but let's only move it once and let's make it the right move.
I don't think splitting the breakfast run is a good idea - you'll end up with two smaller meets. If they're at different venues, then you'll end up with people just going to the nearest one. One meeting, once a month is fine. When the weather finally dried up last summer, we had a few midweek cruises around Banbury that worked rather well. But they were never going to impact on the regular Sunday meets. The current formula works just fine - we just need to think about moving to a different venue.
Let's check this place out on Sunday and see what they have to offer.
its a pity "bobs cafe" on the A45 closed all them years ago, would have been perfect
MickB
Yeah I agree about bobs cafe, my neighbour put in planning apllication to open it back up, but it was turned down due to it possibly increasing the traffic in the area ! make of that what you will?
Paul
What time at yours?
woodie
Woodie...earlier than usual and then well' go round to Ian's
Ian ...it depends on what time captain late shows up!!!!
OK say 10.30 at Ian's..
Excellent. I recun I'll give the van a run.

so guys n gals how was the trial butty run ??
Well I wasn't blown away by the place, but the car park was definitely an improvement. Think we need to check out a couple more options before making any decisions.
I agree we need to eat/do more research.
- the service was slow, even though there was "only" 13 cars in attendance. the owners did say that they could improve "next" time
- the place does not lend itself very well to our meetings, felt cut off from the vehicles.
+ my trip through warwick town center was a blast!!!!!!!!!!
middle of March anyone? anywhere?
Woodie
perhaps we should give them a chance to improve...both the owners apologised for the slow service...they had been expecting 10-12 people not 10-12 cars full of hungry rodders. They had actually laid on 2 extra staff, then though they could cope with 12 more customers so told them they didn't have to work..... and got around 30 of us!!!! They were alot nice than the lot at the LI Diner and are keen to have us there.....don't forget the free top ups on tea and coffee.....same time next month perhaps??......nothing to stop us looking else where as well

I thought it had not a lot going for it, even though it's closer for me. I like the atmosphere at Long Itch, the setting, the outdoor seating, even the car park when it's rammed. I don't think the service anywhere will be too hot with that number of people turning up during the space of an hour or so. Didn't have the same spark imho...
Nice Drive out, 30 or so miles, A decent egg'n'bacon sarnie and a top up'o'tea.
Reasonable/good parking, could do with the other part opening up as well tho!
No police !! or moaning neighbours !!!
But V V's point,
although this was a recce, would the atmosphere change much when we are full strenghth on a nice Warm sunny day, 40 plus cars, dunno!
Mind you , Long Itch didnt have an instant atmosphere, its grown over time,
so for me, jurys out on the new gaff!.
The diner itself is larger inside a plus point, but losing the feel ! even so, at Long Itch, you cant but help 'the feel' ! especially in the Que for ya Tea 'n' Breakfast.
That said, once the better/warmer weather arrives it is nice to be able to sit outside.
Last months meet at Long Itch though, it would have been nice to have been inside !
Didnt see one brass monkey near the place.
So, maybe we could alternate between the two for the early season,
discuss a revue of parking at long itch they cant be blind,
also check out other venues,
then bite the bullet with a democratic poll, simple A, B, C, to decide on one or the other or a bit of each, just for a change on a monthly basis.
Here endeth my two penneth, soap box back in the garage !!

speaking to some biker mates I understand there is a good cafe inside wellsbourne aerodrome, has anyone else heard of it? I think its called the touchdown cafe??
