I'm looking for a compact starter motor for my 3,5L ... I've bought a new one but solenoid is bigger and doesn't fit with RHD steering shaft too near on my model A...
The maker of starter is "Lucas" and the solenoid is fitted with two scews ...
Thanks...

You can get a starter with the solonoid underneath. Instead of faceing the chassis.WOULD THAT HELP

Take the serial numbers offa the stater and do a Google search for the same. Often searching in Google Images/Pictures comes up with a comparable picture of what you want.

On the Right is the starter I need, and on the left the new one I've bought from "Paddock": As you can see, the solenoid is bigger and can't fit ...

Arghhhh... solenoid under is a good idea ... but Right 4/1 exhaust pipe is too near :bang:

Maybe my better solution is moving steering from right to left and big solenoid will have room... but too many job to do before meeting season

Starter on the left is a '87on Range Rover 'mini' starter.
The one on the right is a SD1 starter, harder to find in a useable condition... i threw one out the week before last. Was quite rusty and would, i sure. have needed a refurb. Sorry.
