I have a possible buy on a 305 small block local , but was wandering what sort of power I can expect from one with the usual carb/manifold headers & cam ?
if its pritty lame , ill wait for a 350

Do the same work with the same parts on a 350 and you will get a big difference in power. I had a 49 chevy with a 305. I swapped everything you have mentioned on a 350 and it was an amazing difference. A decent 350 will cost you around £200 - £300 more than a 305 but you cant duplicate the power increase for that money, period.

Nothing wrong with a 305 at all they are a good engine and make all the right noises but compare one to the other & its apples n oranges.

I meant a 350ci will cost about £200 - £300 more than a similar 305ci. 305ci engines are in the £300'ish mark a 350ci around £500 - £600 for a good stocker.

owww you tempt me so mike :D
I almost bought one of those a few months back , but decided against it due to the 350 having the widest selection of aftermarket parts & not having that faint fear of overheating issuses.

However 6.6L does have a nice ring to it lol.:p

I get ya now adam , sorry miss read ya post , I can still cope with that price bracket.
