View Full Version : pop headlights
Today I took a hammer to the spare cibie headlamps I got with a secondhand flip I bought a few years back. The silvering had gone dull on the original Butler lamps so I broke away the glass from the cibie lamps and used the reflector from em to fit into the original lamps. Almost a perfect fit apart from using a die grinder to open up the inside diameter of the original lamps. Should get a much better light output from the halogen bulbs and possibly even a decent beam pattern, as long as the the bulb sits at the right angle in the housing.

Should work as long as the bulb is the right distance away from the lens with the reflector you're using. Otherwise you'll get an odd pattern and what looks like bad headlights. That's why if you want to use halogen bulbs in the original relectors and lenses you have to use a prefocused one rather than a modern H4 etc. Hope it works for you.

The reflectors take a 472 halogen so should be ok. I'll soon find out when I put em on the beam setter at work.... If not plan b, whatever that is lol!

Was quite impressed myself. Those neat little reflectors just inside the glass really set em off eh :D
The lights you have are fog lights from a Riley 1-1/2 rme OR SERIES 1 LAND ROVER the ribbed lens and the reflector looks good but you will not get a beam let alone a dip WHY mess about with the original ?
Just fit Q H BOULBS 12V- 6 V that i supply DONT HAVE TO ALTER ANY THING JUST FIT AND GO ! keeping it all original ? if your reflectors need re-silvering I DO THAT TO
AND SUPLY ALL PARTS FOR THEAS LAMPS RIMS/REFLECTORS /STEM BOLTS/LENSES/SPRING CLIPS/RIM FIXINGS AND MOOR
WILL BE AT THE SWOP MEET WITH MY BITS

Popman.....Thanks for the advice, I'll try and find you at the swap meet and have a chat about what I need. Thought I'd cracked it with what I'd done . Nevermind. Shame coz the do look nice, but I do need decent light output for sure!! Do you carry re-sivlered lens in stock or should I bring my own? Cheers, Lee

Took one of my re-ferb'd lights to work today and set it up on the beam setter. Hey presto!! Perfect beam image on dipped, even had the kick-up to the nearside and on main beam even managed to get a 'hot spot'. Fantastic! Those cibie reflectors with a pre focused bulb worked a treat and I really liked the look of the lights so I'm glad I dont have to change em!!:D
Well that is a result ! i was expecting to find the pattern was to wide? anyway, i bought a nice set of pop brown 7" shells, the fitted some of the wipac quadoptic conversions and some halogen bulbs and there brilliant ..... see there in the photo

Result!
Thanks for the comments fellas! I suppose the proof of the pudding is in the driving eh lol. The light output was just the same as say, a Fiesta or something so they gotta do the trick methinks!! They were on the pop when I bought it, albeit with tatty chrome rims and knackered reflectors oh and hand painted black!! (nice) Just really liked the way they looked. Set the front end off just dandy! hahaha
