i painted my willys first white primer (was a bit bright though) then old english white (if that counts)

I really like it! My 57 pickup is predominately white and been thinking about what colour to paint it for 3 years and I think have finally decided upon going to go two colours white bottom and probably a blue top. I do think all white too bland hence breaking it up with a blue top.

I like it because it's more of a cream, colour can kill a car, imagine if it was diamond white it would look dreadfull, I've only ever seen a couple of white rods that looked ok

Pearl white was very popular in the 70s Silver Surfer, and Andromeda spring to mind.

Pure white over the whole car, not for me. however 2 tone is a winner and if it has to be white then Old english it is.

Roadster used to own a white Ford Pop, & I've seen a couple of pics from the States of a '32 Roadster & a '32 Coupe, both with red interiors, steels etc, & both looked the mutts nuts IMHO.

I would suggest that the question posed by this thread is probably because factory stock cars both before and post-war were pretty dull and drab colours, so kustomizers and hot rodders who wanted a classy finish chose the bright colours and rich metallic's that soon became available in the '1950's. Rodder's have often tended to use the latest in paint techniques, so the same thing happened with 'flakes and candies when they became available in the '60's. However, White base coat's make great backdrops to wild paint designs and colours as demonstrated by cars such as the Ala Kart, the Dream Truck, and the Andy's Instant T C-Cab.

One of the most famous rods ever, the So-Cal Coupe was painted white probably to reflect the heat of the Bonneville sun, as was the Pierson Bros Coupe.

I've often thought that and wondered the same many times, there was a Model Y years back, all white with white wall tyres looked pretty cool, Andromeda and a Model A coupe and a couple of others spring to mind and that's it? I personally like the colour, have seen many a rod painted white in the States and they just look so right sat there in brilliant sunshine! I reckon it might have something to do with the surroundings and the weather over here that spoils the look? I like the rod in the pic and agree, it looks really clean, I'd own it.

Pretty much mate, although still a couple things not quite right, some cooling issues and a really odd moment while cruising along the M20, oil pressure started to drop and got a tapping from lifters for a few seconds :eek: then seemed went back to normal, did it twice in a minute, didn't do it at all on the way back :thinks: gonna have to investigate that one !
