I won't be able to get out to Bakersfield this year for the NHRA meet this coming October so I thought I would take in the inaugural NHRA nostaglia meet that took place at New England Dragway in Epping New Hampshire. The strip is only a spit up from Boston so altogether it's an easy shortish flight with minimal driving once you are in the good ole USA. It was a nice 18 degrees C upon arrival but driving up to the hotel we encountered rainfall of biblical proportions, I was totally unable to see forward but had to keep going, albeit at just 15 mph as I feared getting hit up the rear by someone with similar zero visibility. However we made it OK, checked in then nipped out for a couple of cold ones at a nearby Applebees.
The meet was held over Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the Sunday held over as a rain date. We flew Thursday so hit the drags first thing on Friday and unfortunately there had been rain early so there was no racing but the sun came out and soon dried out the track.
New England Dragway is a really pretty track set in glorious countryside unlike Bakersfield but it did suffer from not quite as many cars as you get at the Californian meet however the racing was intense. Really good doorslammer racing with monster wheelies and the front motor rails were clicking off mid to high 5 second runs with regularity. And there was a couple of jet cars plus a weird 34 Ford exhibition wheelie car to add to the entertainment.
Parked around the pits there was a goodly selection of muscle machines and rods and here's a few pics
