Just learnt today that next year Dragstalgia will be on the 10-12th July......& the ESRA Nats in Norway are on the 16-20th July!!! :thumbsup2:
So this means I can attend both meetings, hopefully with an appropriate vehicle for each event!!! Yipppeeee!!!:thumbs_up_smiley:
Mind you, this does mean I have to finish both the T & the dragster!!

I know Steve, don't know which I'm more excited about, getting the T back on the road or racing the dragster!:drive:
2 dead lines ? No chance !
Oh ye of little faith!! Have I missed any before? Oh...yes...several..in fact!!
What dragster?
Bought a blown & injected A/H Sprite-engined FED dragster built originally in 1973-4, similar to Harold Bull's Stripduster. Just doing some mods to it to make it look more period & also more user-friendly for me (the original builder was quite "slight" in stature!!). Pics on my Facebook page, it's a proper dragster, not one of these namby-pamby modern rear-engined thingies!!! :race:

Thanks son, you'll understand when you're older!!
Ok then, you asked for it, those of you with a nervous disposition look away now!
The first 5 pics show it as it is now, or rather was, as I've now fitted some new wire front wheels from a Raleigh Wisp (as originally built), to replace the Junior Dragster alloy ones seen here (they're now on Dave Gibbons' son Scott's Junior Dragster). The 6th pic show it how it was originally, here in 1973/4 with it's builder, Dave Miller (I would quite like to re-paint it green, possible Kandy Apple finish like the T). The last pic is to prove I have at least have been in it!! There is a video of it running in competition 30-40 odd years ago (!) & 3 of it with me driving up & down Dave Gibbons' yard (where it is garaged) to check that it did indeed run & all the gears were there & the brakes were working (too good as it turned out, they were binding!).
The rear wheels are being replaced with period Wolfrace slot mags & new M/T slicks, the cowl & under support will be altered to make it easier for me to get in & out, at the moment we have to remove the cowl so I can get my legs under the steering support rails. & yes, I will be taking a hacksaw to those stack exhausts which were a later addition by a previous owner who didn't like getting a faceful of Nitro! Yes, you did read that correctly, this beast runs on Methanol & can take up to 30% Nitro!
The brief specs are:
1293cc BMC A-series engine, steel crank, Cooper S rods, forged racing pistons, race cam, 12g big valve head, magneto, Marshall cabin blower supercharger, home-built injector, BW35 trans modified to run forward gears only with a multi-plate slider clutch & flywheel (clutch for starts only, the rest is manual shift for gears), Quaife Ford diff, modified BMC casing, fully-floating rear hubs & disc brakes plus a parachute!! 114" wheel base chassis based on a design by Harold Bull, Ford Pop spindles (heavily modified) torsion bar supsension, Standard 10 steering box & a narrowed rear axle casing. It uses a remote starter system, but I may try one of those Anti-Gravity batteries in it in the future but there's no reason why it wouldn't push-start either!!
Best time previously (on 30% Nitro !) was 10.83 @ 122mph, I'll be happy to get down the track in one piece!! As it was originally built so long ago, the chassis is now not up to current specs to enable it to run in all out competition, that plus a few other mods needed mean that I can only run it in RWYB & nostalgia meetings, which is fine by me!! It's an itch I need to scratch!! :thumbs_up_smiley:

That gives me 9 months to get the willys pick up done.
Have been reading about your restoration and build on UKDRN and really looking forward to seeing this on the strip, very nice:thumbs_up_smiley:
Sweet little thing Maurice. It won't eat a lot either!

Possibly not for "ordinary" cars, but this is a nostalgia car so I don't anticipate any problems! :thumbs_up_smiley:

Maybe not in volume, but Methanol & Nitro ain't cheap!!

Steve, it's not always about size (Sue will know what I mean!!).

Wow John, great find! That's it alright, in it's first guise before he fitted the bigger engine. I must have checked it over at the time when I was part of the Tech Crew at SPR. :thumbsup2:
It also seems to have been before he named it as well. Lots of other names & cars from the past there too!

Lovely little period dragster.
There were quite a few around in the early '70's using the same recipe. Local to me were Steve and Rick Steadman. Steve was a very good engineer and machined their own Rootes blower from billet!
Hi Paul, thanks for the compliment, found this strange looking lump in the garage covered in sawdust cannot bring myself to throw it away.
Spent too many hours making it with the basic tools of the 1970's and very surprised how well it worked despite its crude appearance.
Tri-lobe rotors from Wade R034 cut in half and fitted with steel shafts, rest machined from aluminium castings produced from my own wooden patterns.
Geared at 20% over engine speed gave us 10 psi of boost pressure, later the engine self-destructed when a badly fitted cylinder sleeve slipped and the crank beat it to death.
With the arrival of other expensive and noisy things (children) and 15% mortgage rates something had to give, however Rick and I are every hopeful of finding photos of 'QuickSilver'.

That's really cool, looks very similar to my setup, although yours looks like it's for a motorcycle Steve?
Hi Maurice, your set-up looks 'prettier', the dimensions I used back in 1971/72 were based upon those fitted to similar 'A' series (Drag-n-Fly, Stripduster etc).
I was a totally ignorant of the whole process of supercharging, everything was observation not having the benefits of computers or the 'web' back in the dark-ages.
Looking at your photos yours looks like a Marshall Mk22 (750cc/rev ???) over-geared 25% ???, 940cc/engine rev ??. boost 7 -10 psi ???
However making our own casing I was able to skim the wear off the rotors then bore the casing to give minimum clearance (.005") increasing the efficiency.
This gave us 10 psi boost with 900cc/rev, over-geared 20%, 1080cc/engine rev, this proved too much as we had to change the engine oil every run due to fuel contamination.
This was despite fitting .125" thick de-compression plate and two head gaskets.
As 'QuickSilvers' chassis was relatively short the fuel tank was moved forward and the supercharger sat in front of the engine mounted between the frame rails.
Attached a couple of photos of 'QuickSilver' courtesy of UKDRN "unknown black dragster" as Rick explains on UKDRN we have none with the supercharger fitted, only early homemade injection.
Getting to meets in the early day was an adventure, we had no trailer so removed the rear wheels off the dragster and lifted onto Ricks works pick-up with the tailboard down and front end hanging out with yellow dusters attached, much to the disdain of 'plod'.

Oh wow, didn't realise that one was yours, so yes very similar to mine. Mine is now a 1293cc, no idea on boost but as they say "it's enough!". Yes mine is a Marshal cabin blower with a homemade injector & capable of running up to 30% nitro (if I feel brave enough!). Hoping to get to a few more meest this year, although logistics & clashes with other stuff tends to get in the way. However I do have an improvement on your transporting methods in the form of an enclosed trailer built for a modern Junior Dragster so it just fits in!! Plus we also have my friends 7.5 ton truck transporter if we need to run his altered & mine at the same meet, such as Dragstalgia.
