View Full Version : my car
Here's an old pic from Santa Pod before i owned it,the Anglia on the left..
http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m334/50Anglia/hfh840/40oldstrip.jpg
First rodded around 1981 with a 1600cc Ford engine,
It recieved a Rover V8 in 1983 and has been v8 powered ever since.
Fast forward to 2005...Billing...i see the car advertised in the back of a huge Edsel station wagon, but didnt realise at the time i would later own the car and after looking around for a hot rod, thanks to this very forum,my attention was bought back to HFH in August that year.
So down to the Forest of Dean i went, had a look around and once the old girl was fired up i just had to have her!
Trailored back home,a month later she was mot'd,back on the road and has been used daily since.

wow thanks Taff,

I'm guessing it's your daily, coz I see it prob once a fortnight, always on the move. Not like it's parked up at the side of the road or something, if I had seen it parked I would have knocked and said hi. and blagged a coffee. and some biscuits. maybe a bit of lunch.smoked your fags etc etc
anyway, there's just something about seeing it on the move, it just looks right.
now, about my MOT..........:-)
pmsl...
yeah it's my daily, you more than likely see me on the A419 then,on the way to work.
if you ever follow me to a housing estate your more than welcome in for coffee, but you better bring your own biscuits, only the priveleged get my chocolate hobnobs!!
as for mot, thats my mates garage im advertising (untill he can get on here and do it himself!) give him a call and tell him your on here and know me,he's a good lad and wont ef you about,a few from here have used him already.
take it easy,

saw the photo at the pod and the penny dropped.....it used to belong to cheltenham a a man john heaney. showing my age now, that was back in the mid eighties!!!
hi pete, welcome back to the forum.
i think john had it between '81 and '89 from what i can make out from the records that came with the car.i've had it for over 2 years now and use it as much as possible, needless to say she's suffering a bit and is in need of some tlc!
i went to a westside street rods bbq a few years ago and met geof harris,he said john would of had a fit if he'd seen it there, still going strong lol!
ps.you may be showing your age but hey, there's nothing wrong with your memory!
all the best,
chris
just found my timing tickets when i took her up 'shakey' for the first time..

i've got a lowered front spring and 14 inch wheels and it's a pain on speed bumps as the tyres rub, i am thinking of going back to a standard HA spring, keep the slots mate they just go with a pop.
yeah i heard the front aint great when there lowered too much, just gonna try the wheels and see if i like it,the 13" slots just look to small for me.
cheers.

Hi Tom,
I've only had the car 3 years (this coming august) so maybe one of the last owners took it to the show. She's had quite a few owners.
looks great and gets driven gets my vote
Thanks Shaun! ;)
I knew when i bought the car,the rear panel was shot and i'm only just getting round to fixing it.
What i didn't know was that a previous owner had decided to 'fill' the entire area with 8mm thick plod instead of new steel!
she should be a bit lighter after the repair lol!

Happy New Year Chris, Family & HFH840...
That last picture was taken by me at Cricket St Thomas in 1987 and I am sure the van it is next to HFH is the "wire works" van that belongs to Ken Britton and is now the car he still runs up the strip?
I love seeing the other pictures of "tubby tart racing" which was when Kens wife used to race at Avon Park Raceway back in the late 80's early 90's from what I remember....
Not that I stalked this car, just done alot of research.... ;)
Hope she is going well still, the Buick is in a gazillion bits at the moment but now my health is getting better I hope to start putting it back together.
Happy motoring this year,
Spence & co.....
Hey up Spence, happy new year to you lot too! :D
I could'nt remember where i got that last pic from, must of been from you then! lol
Ken's still running the van, spoke to him breifly at Hotrod drags last year,he gave me a little 'racing tip' which resulted in my NPB!
I've also been in touch with John Heaney and forwarded the above pictures to him.
I'd love to get hold of any old pics from 'tubby tart' days, actually on the strip, that'd be great.
take it easy mate,
Chris
Hi Chris,
I will see if I have any pics here still, you had most of what I had I think but I will dig around again..
Some pics in "custom ford" book, did you get a copy of that or those?
John Heaney still emails me, nice bloke.....
As for HFH being at Exeter in 2001-2002 ish, that was me & Paula when we went to the kitcar show and the brake pipe over the rear axle sheared clean off at the flare at xxxmph on the motorway....scarey moment but we managed to get into the show, bought some pipe clamps and bled the front brakes to get us home....
That old girl just never gave up but did try her luck a few times!!!!
I will pm you if I find any more images.
Have fun,
Spence
Cheers Spence,
John replied to my email, the yellow pop in the pictures above is still around in Gloucester (which is nice to know) and is still as it was back then!
The Anglia is now at work waiting for an engine change, cant wait to get back behind the wheel, she's been sat for 2 months! :o

Well, that carb change turned into a double cylinder head swap thanks to a crappy repair to 2 of the inlet bolt holes (previous to me owning the engine) which were out of alignment, causing a water leak.
While the replacment heads were away getting skimmed i had a little clean up...

Hopefully get some more time on it tommorow morning, then it wont get seen again untill next thursday...bloody work!

An impromptu two weeks off work due to 'being quiet' leads me to 'being quiet' in the garage...with the angle grinder! ;)
The old girls showing her age with rust-a-plenty and old repairs are mostly fibreglass and filler
B post ready to be cut out...was filled with expanding foam
http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m334/50Anglia/hfh840/Photo024.jpg
The most used tool this week...
http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m334/50Anglia/hfh840/Photo014-1.jpg
I then got distracted by a small piece of filler on the rear arch which soon turned into a huge piece of fibreglass (why do people not replace steel with steel?) this resulted in making a repair panel,no pics as i wanted to get it done...
Before...

Will be worth the greif in the end, top tip don't stand the door on the top right hand corner as the radius will get bent, ask me how I know :(

Thanks guys,
Mike dont panic,i've had the door led on my 'workmate' bench...most of the time... :o
Right, not as easy as i hoped it would be,with curves going all directions,i finaly got my head around it (had a sarnie and a beer) and cracked on with it...didnt take many pics...
Tacked on the outer skin, then shaped the 'frame' part of the door to suit and started to fold over the outer...you can just see the pie cuts so i could get the shape right (ball ache!)
