Anyone know this eBay seller or the engine?

I was going to look at a Pop engine this weekend but the guy wants a lot for it. Apparently it's been reconditioned with a rebore and white metal but I'd need to have some proof of the work done at that price and he can't provide it. He won't let me open it up to inspect either, fair enough. He seems to have acquired it too, it doesn't appear to be his engine so he doesn't know all the details about it.

Does anyone on here recognise this as their old engine or know the seller?

I'd be worried at that price that it could just be any other 'good runner' that he's slapped a bit of paint over, bunged on some new nuts and clean gaskets. Paint looks too shiny and the gaskets too clean for that to have ever been run like that if you ask me, I started to smell a rat and pulled out.

if he has'nt any documentation of proof of work done and he won't open it up in my eyes its worth scrap money.
imo he's hiding something, if he was sure work was done he'd soon whip the sump of.

rebuilt in feb 2005 by small ford spares inc vat & del was £1800.i have 2 spare blocks
if they are any good to you unsure of condition but if you want them you can have them
for a drink.

I wouldn't touch that engine. The engine out of my Anglia looked great on the outside pulled the sump and it was full of rust and water!

I checked and it's stamped with a C so it's a 10hp 1172, not an 8hp like he billed it on eBay. That's the other thing. He said 'he knows his sidevalves' but he should have known it wasn't an 8hp if that was the case. Easy enough mistake to make, but I can't help but let it add to my suspicion.

some confusion it isn't mine. i bought a roadster with a rebuilt 1172 sidevalve which is fitted to mine,just trying to point out what it would cost to have one built.

although i do have 2 blocks going if they are any good to you. i live just outside dover

In light of his feedback dont touch it Jonny. Save your money for a `definite` rather than risk it on an unknown `possible`.
Keep your eye on the sale, then when/if it sells, watch for the buyers feedback. IF it`s yet another neg. feedback, console yourself it was`nt you...
