I realise to most I'm just another voice on the 'net whittering on about how my interpretation of legislation is correct and everyone else is wrong.

So I thought best to state my experience and see if it is considered adequate .

Been rodding for 45 years now WITHOUT a break for kids marriage and house etc , only thing that has slowed me down or stopped me along the way ha been health.

My first job was within a Chartered accountants training to be an Income Tax Law specialist .

In 1975 I first became aware of threats to our hobby with the then looming Type Approval that would have stopped all modifying .So I became involved with the fight lead by Hot Car .

About that time I met and eventually married some one who worked within the DVLA LOs so had direct access to info.

I had input , as did some other rodders into the creation of what was meant to be a super MOT as put forward by the Hot Rod Action group.

It eventually became SVA and the fact that suicide doors CAN pass BIVA today is because of all who had input.

When SVA came into being I wrote and gave to The Gasser for publication a Dummies guide to SVA .

I have continued monitoring legislation since then and was alerted to a review of DVLA Inspection procedures, by Andy Bosworth , around 12 year ago now.

Many saw this as an opportunity to generate a Rodding Class and I volunteered due to my previous experience . It came to nothing but it did make me realise who precarious what we do was in the scheme of things and how easily something could slip byus that could finish rodding for good.

It also made me even more aware of the laws governing ALL vehicles and how the situatioon is nowhere near as simple as " getting DVLA to change their mind ". I can supply all the legislation to prove these facts as well. before anyone ask I won't though. Got far more important things to do liking putting my own stuff through BIVA . I've put vehicles through SVA ,and helped others do the same for more than 10 years.

At that same time it was realised that Rodding alone did not have the clout to be heard or save itself alone . At this stage ACE was formed ,along with other concerned individuals ( and mostly NSRA members ) to have another voice to speak for ALL who modify .

We did all the things being suggested right now about contacting ANY magazine involved in ANY form of car modifying and contacted ALL major players in the overall modifying world to try to get them to form a trade body to look after their , and our, interests .

This simply didn't fly so ACE had to turn into a campaigning body as well as our original intent of supplying links to FACTS ( NOT SPECULATION) on not only what was on the horizon but also the truth of existing legislation.

We were directly responsible for the clarification of the 8 points rules which so many now rely on with regards to chassis mods etc and this culminated in press realeases from DVLA and VOSA.

Carrying on I / We saw the dangers arising within EU legislation and how it wanted a strict definition of Historics that could work against us.

People rallied under the ACE banner and lobbied the EU Parliament and it was as a direct result of our delaying tactic that they had to allow the UK input into the process. WE have just seen the rather disappointing outcome of that Consultation.

Meanwhile I had realised that we had to protect all methods of building our style of vehicles and that we should also have input into the formulation of the SVA replacement BIVA.

Away from the keyboards much has been done , exemptions gained, and the true usability of BIVA ascertained.

EVERYTHING I know has ,in the past been linked to articles proving facts but I was also asked where I thought it was all heading . THAT personal opinon was referred to by many as scaremongering .

So that's my background for any that wish to know why I am such a gob****e.

It's not your credentials that are in question Kev, it's other peoples ability to listen and digest and build accordingly
