They look beautiful, nothing else matters :)

Without a valve seal mod they usually smoke a bit evenw hen totally rebuilt . Parts can be bloody expensive , points are a fortune.

Sus need binning , I always hated them. Good conversions is a 38 DGAS , 4 barrel Holley is too much for them. IF you go ahead I have a cunning plan to convert them to a unique period looking twin carb set up I can share with you. Would do it myslf but I'm all out of V8s to play with.

Performance depends on what you are putting it in , 34 is realtively light MPG I seem to remember as around 25/28 in a Mk2 Zephyr . I have often thought that fitting a HP24 overdrive gearbox would be worth investigating .

When alls said and done they are around 150 bhp from 2.5 litre V8 and a work of art :)

Don't do it. Put a sbc.

Speak to Russ or Andrew Carpenter, they've been "playing" with them since the 70s & run a slingshot with one in (albeit the 4.5L version).

It would be if you were exepecting SBC performance (which is about 2 litres bigger and 70 more bhp ). Compare like with like though with a 4.5 Daimler and 220 bhp ;)

Two cars fitted with Daimler V8 , the Mk2 style that weighed in at 1473kg and 0-60 off approc 11secs. SP250 weighed 940 kg and gave 0-60 off approx 8.5 ,depends what you are after . After all there's an arguement to me had for simply ignoring everything else as inferior and opting for an LS6 , or whatever the number is now ;)

Horses for courses and all that .:)

Come on Mister Tee Russ' Glacier Grenade was and still is a digger and not a slingshot plus is a 2.5 with a 3.71GMC blower producing 60 lb boost
I think your grey matter is fading Ha Ha

Kev's right, beautiful looking, ( got to be polished!!) and sounding. Most parts still available, but nowhere near as cheap as for sbc. The one i had in my T was smooth as silk, threepenny bit would not move. They smoked when new. Watch for head corrosion due to electrolosis, & use correct corrosion inhibitor/ antifreeze. Remove & clean out crank sludge plugs. I rebuilt the one in the Y nearly 40 years ago & its still running. Needs good ventilation in a tight engine bay. Only around 750 had overdrive box in the saloon, so rare, but its great. Beatifully machined engine internally as well. Its not an sbc, so unfair to compare to that, just get what you fancy.

If looks are what your looking for then the Daimler needs some beating. If you want performance then look at American v8s.

And where do you find one? The 250 MK2 Jag shape cars have all but disappeared, they were pretty rare to start with, though I did MOT one a while back(It passed before you ask!), and as for Majestic Majors, a few still get banger raced so that might be a source of engines-most racers swap in a Duratec now and cant be bothered getting an old lump to run. They are usually nice people to deal with too.
Realistically, how fast can you drive a hotrod on our roads anyway? As the wise man above says, American V8s are for go.

I thank you very much for the correction (although I was thinking of another rail at the time!!)! Did Whiff tell you my new next door neighbour is the spitting image of you. However, I hold my hands up about the engine size in their "digger"!

Getting the engine is not the issue, just what are they like.... I have a 429 Caddy motor I was going to use, but always loved the look of a Hemi, Caddy has all the power in the world but is big & heavy, Just deciding which way to go, I am very familiar with Russ Carpenter and his legendary career but not gonna be a race engine just a cool rod really

If you decide to go down Daimler route let me know as I have got an 8 page article on the engine.

i would defiantly go down the Hemi route just to be a little different from all the other cars.

Dexion steering racks are the future [:D]
V5 registered as a 1954 pop so all is good, just paint, glass and tyres to get it on the road now
