I haven't been able to confirm it on an official government website but it appears there will be a change on the 1st of January to do with the use of black and silver number plates on historic cars. The original legislation as we know said that all cars used on the road from 1973 would have to have have reflective plates, but after changing the regulations and introducing historic vehicle status they left and anomaly that meant that all cars that had historic vehicle status could have black and silver even those first used on the road after 1973. To correct this they have made a ruling that from the 1st of January 2021 only vehicles registered before 1980 with historic status will be allowed to have black and silver plates.
Note: I haven't seen this this in an official government website as I said above so take this with a pinch of salt in case it's the rumour mill. If anybody has seen this in an official government site please post a link to it here to confirm. Otherwise take it there is a possibility that if your historic car is post 80 and has black and silver plates you may have to change them.
