I built it about 4 years ago in my 'In-laws' garage...took me about 2 1/2 years to build.

And for reference, this is what a bog stock one looks like:-

Before

http://usera.imagecave.com/Klunk/Rover/wheels165.jpg
After

It has Cortina front suspension, Capri LSD rear axle. Heavily modified Weller steels. Bodywork widened to suit wheels/track etc. Capri roof insert and sunroof. Capri loom, Capri steering column/ pedal box. No surprises for what car I used as a donor. I originally built it with a 2.0l pinto and Type 9 gearbox.

Interior is Calibra Recaro front and rear seats. And original dash redone, original clocks have had the innards replaced with modern 'stuff'.

Engine is now Rover V8 and Manual SD1 gearbox.

Soon I will be ripping the rear suspension out and redoing it with new leaf springs and better anti tramp bars.

I aslo have a few 'ebay' and swapmeet goodies that will be finding their way on very soon.
Loads more pics and stuff here:-

This lot will be coming out, the chassis (presently 3/4 with monocoque rear) will be getting replaced with a new rear section joining evcerything up. New rear springs panhard rod and a bit of rust treatment....grrrr.

Then hopefully I'll feel a bit more confident in chucking it up the strip!!! Not that it goes too bad at the mo anyway, just would prefer it to be less 'wriggly' at the back!

Forgot to update me pictures. So here's one from Watford Rods.

(Ignore the wally in the silly hat, sat on the wing...that'll be me!)

Plus latest update is, rebuilt engine is 70% rebuilt and hoping to be in before Billing, assuming I can get the new Cam (Mwar har har har) delivered in time. Also rebuilt gearbox going in at same time.

Then next on the never ending list is to rebuild the rear end!

Plus fit my 'new' boot off Ebay, and reskin the doors, and fit the headlining, and......and......etc etc

Won't be long before you put shiney paint on it then

Yeah Right. Although Kev was surprised when he gave me some engine parts to paint and I sent back shiney ones! He was expecting Satin Black.

Engine should be complete next week, but shan't tempt fate and will wait 'til after Billing to put it in.

Last week I drove to a mate's garage, it was the last journey this engine would make in this car.

http://usera.imagecave.com/RoverP3/Engine_swap/DSCN0640.jpg

Myself and Kevin stripped the front sheet metal off the car.

Heave ho, and it's out with the old.

A degrease overnight. God it was covered!

Saturday morning, after a power wash. Time for a tidy up.

http://usera.imagecave.com/RoverP3/Engine_swap/DSCN0647.jpg

Kevin swapped over the few remaining bits that were needed off the old engine to my new engine. A totally rebuilt SD1 engine with Hurricane cam. mated to a new gearbox and a manual bellhousing conversion. The flywheel, carb and fanimold, alternator, starter and a few other odds and sods were all that came over from the old one. By this point Roland had turned up and mucked in.

Clean and tidy bay awaiting filling.

http://usera.imagecave.com/RoverP3/Engine_swap/DSCN0649.jpg

Could'nt hold the camera and get the engine in, so here's a shot of Kev and Roland spannering away.

http://usera.imagecave.com/RoverP3/Engine_swap/DSCN0650.jpg

Saterday afternoon, we couldn't get oil pressure, no matter how much vaseline we shoved in the oil pump. Yes I had the joy of buying a bulk load of vaseline in Tescos...how embarassing. So we finished at a reasonable time Saturday night. I went to B&Q and stocked up with some 12mm and 14mm steel tube and made myself a priming tool.

Sunday morning, we arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed and pulled the dizzy shoved my priming tool on the oil pump connected a drill and Ta Da 50 PSI. So a hasty reassembly of the dizzy and then..............

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhLYFAm_itM)

All we need now is a bit of reassembly of body panels and then it's running in time.

A huge thank you to Kevin for all his hard work, and to Ian (morecubes) for the loan of the corner of his garage. and to Roland for bringing Fish and chips and beavering away on Saturday.

In the brief time that the engine has been running, I can just tell how knackered my old one was, this one is so much more 'tight' and strong. I can't wait to get the miles on it.

I am still grinning like a Cheshire Cat!

Yes it does, it sits in the slot that the Cortina chassis used to sit in and 'holds the uprights apart'. It works!!

Seeing as your "permitted garage time" is about on par with mine, we should see it debut when you drive it to collect your first pension!!!!!
