I had a bit of time to start making a template this eve this is for a guide on the main hoop. Not quite there yet but it’s a good start.
that's exactly how i did the main hoop on my anglia. it's so easy, lay the template on the floor/bench and bend the hoop to match. no complicated calculations required, more like oversized blue peter stuff . works for me :thumbs_up_smiley:
neil.
Still here chippin away!!
And looking good as always Tom.

That’s some funky seat mount, probably worse out there ha!
A sorcher of a day in a tin roof building!
Hot to say the least!
Fellow ‘Short Fuse’ gasser driver Nick Hewison took a ride over today to help out and return the favour from when we worked on his van.
We managed to get a nice fit on driver side main hoop to a post. It came with some double check moments but we got it there.
I was being a little bit fussy with an extra bend to join on to the main hoop differently, it worked out very well in my opinion.
After faffing around with that side to make it fit pretty well a few more little tweaks and should be good we moved on to the other side.
It goes with out saying that the second side is quicker. BUT! Unfortunately fell at the last hurdle, notched the join to the main hoop wrong and unfortunately if we tried to save it it would then move the tube in a place where I didn’t want it and there for continue to be annoying me.
We decided the best way was to re bend.
We stepped away not annoyed, no point getting angry…. Cough there’s a reason why Nicks vans called Short Fuse.
It’s a shame as the tube fits the body nice.
Its Great template to follow, what’s a bit more tube when you’re building a car.
Onwards and upwards.
Unfortunately my target of out by the last meeting is probably a little unreaslistic, this is a hobby build after all. I’ll do my best but not at the compromise of how I’d like to do somthing.
I am not a expert in this sort of stuff my any means, I seriously hate tube bending probably because I don’t do enough of it!
It’s a Gasser Circus Round of racing at the weekend, good luck all. If your following this build and not going to the races then get your but down there to see cars like this in action! Retro Show Santapod!
You made the best choice Tom, get sorted not angry mate.

Great success this evening!
Re bent some tube for the main hoop to A post that the bad notch was on! Managed to match the other side pretty well. The notch is **** or bust, do that bit when I have a bit more time.
Nice one Tom.

A bit of card board tonight after a sweep up, I didn’t have time to do anything serious but was just messing with some ideas
That's a state of the art CAD feature there.
Cardboard Aided Design. You can't beat it. :)

Big progress yesterday.
I arrived at the workshop and decided to get the rear diagonal started. A simple, yet tricky notch as 2 at the top end going on to the main hoop that has an angle in due to the kink to follow the roof. And a join on to the diagonal stay, I opted to notch this one by hand, making the lines of the tubes and gently trimming back I got it pretty close.
Next on the jobs was get the other main hoop to a post notched and in. I started to do this, worked out the correct angle and slowly trimming back the tube to get it fitting good rather than going all in and risking the tube again. I didn’t want to do that.
A few people were around yesterday to throw some ideas and hold tube.
Time was getting on but stayed at the shop till about 9pm.
The plans were complete for the day.
main hoop to a post notch and tacked in.
rear diagonal notched and tacked in
screen bar final decision made, notched and tacked in
dash bar notched and tacked in.
Great progress. We’re not done yet but well on the way! In between race meetings.
With a gasser circus meeting being last weekend I was helping Nick Hewison with the Short Fuse Fordson Van, I’ve gotta get back out there! With over half the 16 qualifiers being .00 off index I gotta get on haha! We managed to dial Nick in well with .06, .006 ,.01 and .004 of index in qualifying. Out in round 2 with a red that happens.
Next weekend off to santapod with super gas / comp bit hopefully a bit of progress in the week
Cracking progress Tom.

I had a bit of free time last night so managed to start putting a few welds down. There are still bars to go in yet obviously but had to weld some points before the others went in so carried on a bit more. Busy weekend at Dragstalgia this weekend so with any luck I’ll get a bit more done this evening and then be back to it next week some time!
Lovely welds Tom. [emoji106]

A little out of practice to be honest Tim, you can only hope in the event of a problem they are strong enough.
Last night I done some more welding around the tubes that are in the car and to the areas I can get to at the moment.
I'd be well happy to TIG that tidy Tom. [emoji6]
