Cheers Marcel, good to see progress on yours again.
Yes Mark at long last! You know how it is the old car has to take a bit of a back seat every now and then.
It's looking great Mark. I really like the part smooth-part pleated design of your interior panels, works well with the interior style.
Cheers,
Nick
Cheers Nick.
Parcel shelf finished now - ally trim needs notching for seatbelts & polishing and I also need to fit the rivnuts to fix it down.

Other stuff..... thought it might be useful to have remote battery posts as the battery is buried behind the boot panels - not an easy job to access for jump start or charging so ordered some off the net, do you think they are man enough, lol :D :D
Bit larger than I expected!

How much were those remote mounts Mark
did those belts come with instructions ?
Hi Steve,
Remotes were about £15 each.
Yes, belts came with a big handbook listing all the do's & dont's of fitting, quite complicated as they have fairly critical angles for mounting with min/max distances etc.
Probably ok as they are inertia reels Steve not plain harnesses.
I had to put them that far back as they had to be a minimum amount unrolled for proper use, any nearer and they were slack! Running them down to the floor did not work as the tubs were in the way. Quite difficult building the re-inforcement in there too. The downfall of putting big engines in little cars :(
Cheapest posts I could find - price included shipping.
Mounting points are correct - instructions were very detailed as they are German rallying harnesses and listed all acceptable angles both vertically & horizontally. You should know I do things properly Steve.
As they also go through the upper seat hole there is a secondary stop to avoid rising in the seat (apart from the lower mounts which stop this) Only the upper part of the harness is on the inertia reel, the lower is fixed.
The belts are quite high tech with special stitching in the upper harness to allow it to stretch to avoid submarining under crash conditions (belts are scrap after a crash) as well as having inertia controlled locking of the harness or electronic control if you want to override it to make a fixed harness.
I got ripped off - don't think so? plenty of places on the net selling them for up to 3 times as much - Topspeed for one.
If you do stuff cheaper you need to let people know - we can't buy from you if we don't know what you sell - you should get a list on your site so we can buy from you if you have the parts too.
Drivers door trimmed - not entirely happy with it - might end up redoing this one before next spring.

Finished repainting the passenger door today so I could unwrap the pop again - a sneak photo of it sitting on its wheels at long last.

Not too bad a shine.
thats a good finish be good to get it all back together
Shut up you!
Thanks Mark, less progress today as I was knocking up cement (ooh my back :( )
Finished the passenger door panel;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34544d57e5831a6.jpg
and trimmed the steering wheel centre as John said it looked crap - still needs a logo disc in the middle but unsure the grey is an improvement or not.

Coming on really well Mark, that sure does shine.
Cheers. Tim W.
Progress has been slow recently as work & preparations for house move have taken up a lot of time.
Passenger door is now back on the car but some extra work was needed for it to work right. The door handle was binding when it was fitted - it's always been a bit stiff but it had tightened up to the point that it would stay pointing down when opened.
The problem was the little 'cage' on the inside of the door skin - it was too small for the handle mechanism and was binding on it. The answer was to carefully cut the cage off the back of the door skin and very carefully with a Dremel grind off the metal until it was just the door skin remaining - without damaging the paint on the outside!
I then made a 6mm steel reinforcing plate to fit behind the panel drilled & tapped to take the door handle. Once this was painted and the inner door skin also painted I Sikaflexed into place and tightened it all up to set. It all works perfectly now.
As we are about to move it's a case of bolting all the parts on temporarily for now as they will be safer to move when fitted to the car.
Front splitter and grills are fitted to the flip front - they will all have to come off again when I get round to flatting & polishing the paint as not done this bit yet;

Boot panels are all fitted - still need to finish off the fuel tank wiring neatly;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34545fcd64335c7.jpg
And finally got round to doing the electric window wiring in the doors, had to make a little bracket to fit the relays onto, I can now do the last bits of wiring on the car to get the windows working.

Gonna be a stunner Mark.
Thanks Guys.
Window wiring all finished now, window mechanisms all whirring up and down nicely - just need some windows to attach them to!

As I'm moving in 10 days time work will probably grind to a halt for a bit :(
Nothing to report about the car, but 8 days before we move I have finally concreted between the garage and the access road - might be able to have it's maiden drive tomorrow if the cement has gone off enough - eek!
dont forget to do a video
Will do :)
What you have all been waiting for!!
More videos when youtube finished uploading them.

That beer rack is a bit high !!! Nice one mark, its been a hell of a wait to see it move
That sounds lovely......great work.
Nice one Mark and i saw that grin on your face excellent :thumbsup2:
Last one, I did have good footage from inside the car - but it did not record :(
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydaP_-MCrl8&feature=youtu.be
Took me about 1 1/2 hours to clean it after though - it's a mucky car park :(
Was rather good fun though :D goes nice, steering a bit different, but a quick release wheel will feel strange I guess, brakes - I hope they get better when adjusted properly as they are not awe inspiring at the moment.
I bet your'e chuffed
hi mark i bet your like a dog with 2 d=cks very well done you deserve it bet you cant wait till the spring when you can go out and enjoy your ride looks and sounds grand thanks for posting the video :thumbsup2::thumbsup2:
Awesome mate .... 11/2hours cleaning ... that's black pops for you ;)
Thanks everyone - yep, cant wait till next year to finally join in with everyone.
Awesome, you must be over the moon:thumbsup2:
Sounds and looks great Mark. Based on that I would say drive it to the new house! It's mot and tax exempt!
Seriously though, sticking with a project of this calibre to the end and to such a high standard is a testament to your commitment to it...........and your OCD.
Nice one Mark:) it's been a long journey but well worth it. Sounds spot on, brakes etc can be sorted as you go.
:party2::drive:
Well done that man, really feel chuffed for you Mark, been a long time coming and I assume now you've driven it all the issues have now been forgotten mate.
Cheers. Tim w.
must feel good Mark, good on yer! :thumbsup2:
looking good mate well done , cracking build :thumbs_up_smiley:
Thanks for the nice comments - want to drive it again :D but mucky car park is not a good idea. Moving house next Monday means no more fun for a bit.
Looks fantastic. Sounds fantastic. Raises the bar another few notches for rodded Pops.
Nice one Mark, great to see it finally move under its own power
Well done mark great to see it on the move. I had a black car once oh man what a sod to keep clean. Lol
Great stuff Mark - that should spur you on to get it on the road.:)
Cheers guys, not the colour that's the problem, its just all the mud underneath it, lol!
Glass is the last big hurdle, once that's templated & fitted it's just the carpets, a few more trim panels & the little finishing touches really.
Looks great Mark, a well built lovely looking pop, and that was a big Grin on your face , Rightly so [:D]
Thanks Grommit been invited to wheels day so better get back in the garage soon to finish it!
Looks and sounds awesome! Hopefully I'll be testing mine as well in a few months.
Fantastic job marks looks and sounds great well done mate
Bu66er!
Only 5 weeks till Wheels Day and at least 10 weeks of work to get it ready  car has been deserted in new garage getting covered in crap :(
House move and recently flu for 3 weeks has suddenly left me with a big pile of jobs & not much time.
Where is the best place for getting new glass cut near slough?
What about the front screen though Steve? Laminated not so easy?
Laminate is probably easier to get sorted than toughened.
Or go here Mark, near Chobham....they`ve done quite a few local rodders windscreen glass, including our Phaeton. Top service!.
http://oldschoolwindscreens.co.uk/
We had the first screen done at `Windsor glass co` on the Vansitart estate, but 2 cracks appeared after a few months so I avoid them now!.
Not sure my skills run to cutting screens!
Brian, thanks for the link I'll make templates and go to them. I had also heard that windsor glass were expensive and not good anymore.
I think I'll leave that to the professionals Steve - don't want to wreck a good screen.
I did get some work done on the pop today, front & rear screen rubbers cut almost to size (left a bit long for now), door glass channel felts cut to size and bent up and unchopped MDF templates ready to be cut tomorrow at work so I can then cut them down to what I need.
Also trimmed ally rear shelf finisher for the seatbelt recessed and polished it up.
Then is pi$$ed down and I discovered the garage roof has a new big crack in it :(
Finished off the fuel tank wiring properly now - last bit of wiring done :)

Not new but showing off my fuse access door;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3454f8e301b7eb6.jpg
Making door glass templates - what is the correct way of fitting the door glass? does it fit via the window opening or up through the bottom of the door?
I have put Pop stuff in through the top. The garnish moulding takes up that gap when together.
Very neat :thumbs_up_smiley:
Looks great Mark, how do you get the flasher unit out at the top ?
Looks well Mark, keep it coming mate.
Cheers. Tim W.
Cheers Tim
Good work Mark, spot on.
Well less than 2 weeks from wheels Day & I'm suffering from terminal "I can't be bothered to work on the car" ???
Dunno why not - it's almost finished you'd think I'd be gagging to do the last bit.
Maybe it's because as we moved recently I'm doing lots of decorating & fixing stuff so the car is taking a back seat.
Anyway.........after fixing the daily today (broken spring from potholes:shake:) I ventured into the garage & fired up the pop to see why its running so bad & to try & tune it.
Turns out I had to strip down the carb as it was full of debris - hopefully only first build stuff & not the brand new Aeroquip hoses breaking down inside. with all the debris removed and the float valves cleaned I stripped & cleaned the pressure regulator as it also did not seem to respond correctly.
Put it all back together and it ran lovely :) So I took it out for a little spin :D up and down the road - brakes are now beginning to work better but it pulls to the left, tracking is not set yet though.
It's quick though :D :D only blipped it a little at the end of the road, traction was an issue but it took off real quick. Have to admit though that the scoop might be a little restrictive for forward vision :( might have to relent and possibly remove it for longer journeys -we'll see.
This has renewed my enthusiasm a fair bit though - target for Wheels day is to flat & polish the drivers door & flip front and try to clean & re-mop the rest as new garage storage has not been kind to it, glass will have to wait for another day so hope it does not rain!
a quick drive is always going to help with getting your mojo back mate :thumbs_up_smiley:
Got it insured today, tax & mot this week just need to flat & polish the front end & drivers door for wheelsday and hope it won't rain as I have no glass in it.
